Lahore, Jun 20 (PTI) Pakistan's fundamentalist party Jamaat-e-Islami has warned it will launch a fresh movement if Ahmedi sect does not accept its minority status and the government keeps silent about its so-called "blasphemous and unconstitutional activities".

Jamaat-e-Islami chief Munawwar Hasan said the recent terrorist attacks on Ahmedi mosques in Lahore were condemned by all sections of society.

Terrorists last month wearing suicide vests and armed with grenades and assault rifles stormed two packed mosques of the Ahmadi sect in this eastern Pakistani city, killing about 100 people, including a retired lieutenant general and a journalist, and injuring scores more.

These attacks, Hasan claimed, had been carried out not by Muslims but by enemies of Islam.

After these attacks, the Ahmedis projected themselves as an oppressed community and were not prepared to accept their minority status, Hasan contended.

This fundamentalist menace of our society only knows one thing and one thing alone, that is to damage Pakistan and facilitate those who cause us and others harm.

Jamaat-E-Islami was a creation of a man who vehemently denied the Two nation theory and called our great founding father a Kafir. I have yet to see this scum do anything that is beneficial to Pakistan. Look at the hypocrisy of their statement, they say they (ahmadi's) are presenting themselves as an oppressed minority and they want them to submit to their oppressive demands.

This illiterate trash in our nation is the internal enemy, everyone should be aware of their support for terrorist who have killed our people, attacked our army and hurt our integrity. The day we rid ourselves of this we would achieve the the nation envisioned by Jinnah.

I think Ahmedis should be given rights and they should make there activities more overt and transparent so that nobody gets into the confution and everybody follows the religion which he/she likes. Moreever i think JI has the right to do whatever they wish to do provided they remain inside the bound and legal jurisdiction provided by the Law of the state...!!!

Tirmazi narrates other accounts of US support for PNA and backchannel support for Zia in '77 as well.

Nonetheless, in the interest of objectivity and fairness, Maududi's objection to Pakistan was based on his interpretation religious scripture, and he maintained even after he hijacked this country as a co-conspirator, that Islam neither encourages nor allows the concept of a nation-state and the only political entity is a unified Ummah under Khilafa. After independence, the necessity of grabbing political power demanded the acceptance of Pakistan and he claimed that it was the first step towards a global Khilafa and Pakistan was just a stepping stone. A very good overview of early post-partition views on nation-state can be read in the Munir Report on the Ahmedi attacks of 1953.

The report says:-

We asked the ulama whether this conception of a State was acceptable to them
and everyone of them replied in an unhesitating negative, including the Ahrar and
erstwhile Congressites with whom before the Partition this conception was almost a part
of their faith. If Maulana Amin Ahsan Islahi’s evidence correctly represents the view of
Jama’at-i-Islami, a State based on this idea is the creature of the devil, and he is
confirmed in this by several writings of his chief, Maulana Abul Ala Maudoodi, the
founder of the jama’at. None of the ulama can tolerate a State which is based on
nationalism and all that it implies; with them millat and all that it connotes can alone be
the determining factor in State activity.

Report truly states:-

it is alleged that Maulana Abul Ala Maudoodi’s object in emphasising on an Islamic Government for Pakistan was; to occupy the first place in the State and that it was with this ulterior object that Jama’at-i-Islami made a common cause with the Ahrar and the other ulama

Starting a para on the Jamaat's role, the judges give a brief history of the Jamaat and state:-

A Government which is not based on the Jama’at’s conception, as for instance where it is based on the conception of a nation, is, according to Maulana Amin Ahsan Islahi, a Satanic Government, and according to Maulana Abul Ala Maudoodi himself kufr, all person staking part in such Government, whether as administrators or otherwise, or willingly submitting to such system being sinners. The Jama’at was, therefore, professedly opposed to the Muslim League’s conception of Pakistan, and since the establishment of Pakistan, which it described as Na Pakistan, has been opposed to the present system of Government and those who are running it. In none of the writings of the Jama’at produced before us there is to be found the remotest reference in support of the demand for Pakistan, and. on the contrary, these writings which contain several possible hypotheses, are all opposed to the form in which Pakistan came into being and at present exists. According to the statement of the founder of the Jama’at before a Military Court, short of an armed rebellion the Jama’at believes in, and has its objective the replacement of the present form of Government by a Government of the Jama’at’s conception

As many would realize by my writings, I have no sympathies whatsoever for any religio-political party, neither do I believe in a theocracy nor in the proclamation of a tribal Arab culture that is regarded as religious necessity by our orthodox clergy but objectivity necessitates that one should accept the fact they never did and perhaps in a wider sense still do not accept the concept of a nation-state. They jumped on the bandwagon of national politics only to reap profits from it.

Thanks for this, I had been looking for a reference that I can use regarding the support that US had provided them. In part they (US) wanted to curb the influence of Bhutto because he was distancing himself from US.

There is a blog from an ex intelligence personnel who wrote about the whole period. The things he revealed were very alarming and really detestable, even from the Bhutto family. I am not very fond of ZAB either but the way our system works, its the collective work of the elite.

When I am able to find that blog again, I will send you the link. Unfortunately I am not being able to locate it anymore.
