What's new

Jehangir Tareen, Legharis join PTI

the Leghari brothers are characterless, I cannot digest all the new entrants, I trust IK and old School of PTI.

these are opportunists and may hijack IK. IK must not lose his close circle who were with him since 1996.

How else do you propose breaking the stranglehold of the two big political mafia's PPP n PMLN with billions of $$$ of vote=buying resources that IK is fighting?

Breaking their stranglehold is necessary for any change to occur in Pakistan's political future. You have to break their structure, their ranks, and take the key players out. Just like in a cricket match, once the top batsmen get out the whole batting line begins collapsing.

There's no other way around it.

Imran Khan is playing his cards right so far, he;s selecting the "cleaner" players out of the lot no matter how characterless they maybe for now. What's more important is the marketing and hype these new recruitments are creating in favour of PTI n Imran's Image, it;s like free massive positive publicity ... It's just a begining and only been a month of Imran's political flooding since Lahore Jalsa, if karachi Jalsa becomes an overwhelming success then his political flood could quite possibly turn into nationwide tide of Tsunami Wave that will start bringing new n big key players to the table...I can see that happening already!!

This could quite possible turn Imran into a legendary Icon just as Barak Obama was before the election. People will go out to vote for IK n forget about the old faces. Then PTI team can slowly get rid of characterless opportunists.

however he needs to speed up the recruitment process.

Is there any UN-tested party besides PTI???? I have plan to cast my vote this time and will go to Pakistan specially for this.

. . .
everyone is sick of zardari and nawaz tic tac toe game!

.
well south punjab is almost PTI's now....
KP will also very much go to PTI (not sure about hazara).
Sindh is out of question unless zulfiqar mirza ends up joining PTI.
balochistan is too tribal to belong to any political party.

not many big people have joined PTI, its just the losers from previous elections and lotas,

only successful guy who can have some guarentee to PTI for winning some seats is just quraishi

I don't think it's right to say these people are "loosers". Most of them have a very strong vote-bank in rural constituencies in Punjab, and one reason for PML-N being shocked and now trying to fund media elements is their loss of rural constituencies(especially Southern Punjab). Kasuri for example is a political heavyweight in the Kasur constituency(so Shah Mehmood Qureshi isn't the only guy with a votebank joining PTI - most of these people almost always win their own constituency). So after the Lahore Jalsa alot of power in Punjab was attracted to PTI.

Perhaps after a show-of-strength in Karachi, many politicians in Sindh disillusioned with PPP may join PTI as well(some already have). Both political parties are corrupt but each politician is corrupt to varying degrees. Many joining PTI have a reputation for helping many people in their constituencies, due to which they have a backing there. Imran Khan has said he's trying to pick politicians that abstained from FINANCIAL corruption, even though even the better guys in Pakistani politics are still tainted politically. Nawaz Sharif crying and whining about these people being lotas is a little hypocritical, as he and PPP were fighting over the Q-League supporters. If the disillusioned PPP cadre in Sindh decides to join PTI as well, the media storm against PTI is going to get much worse as PPP and PML-N will join hands to try to crush Imran Khan.

Even now, this whole media campaign has most supporters confused, and I guess that's what Nawaz Sharif was aiming for. Imran Khan often does not articulate his points very well(especially when some paid-off anchor is constantly hounding and interrupting him). I think he and his party should sit down and explain how these politicians are critical if PTI is to win rural constituencies(and the majority of voters in Pakistan belong to rural/village areas). Rightnow is a critical juncture for Pakistan and times have never been this desperate in our history.

It's either PTI winning the next election and being able to make some much-needed changes, or Imran Khan can reject these politicians and essentially win his own seat again and maybe one or two more from the bigger cities - and see the two political parties continue to take turns and sink Pakistan completely. I for one completely support PTI's rising political power in rural areas, these may likely prove critical in the numbers game and going head-to-head with both the other parties combined.

At the risk of being hounded by PTI diehards, the above seems to be a case of PTI evolving into another PML-Q. All these folks will come collecting once IK and PTI are in the office.

This is the nature of the leach also known as the Pakistani siyasatdaan!

I say this out of sincere concern for the well being of IK. The fact that PTI to this day remains a one man show is the reason that IK has had to go head-hunting and introduce the same old faces as representing PTI.

PTI will get the vote but it is for lack of an alternate. Beyond that, their performance will be as good or bad as that of any others who have ruled Pakistan.

Had the PTI put up a new generation of candidates (they may, but the fact that all the big whigs are joining them means that they are counting on getting a ticket from the PTI), I think there would be more enthusiasm for the PTI watchers and those on the sidelines, however given the names, it seems a lot of mediocre personalities from the PML and PPP are making their way into the party.

I really wish PTI the best, however they have their work cut out in front of them. The same challenges that afflicted Musharraf's PML-Q seem to be arising for the PTI.

@blain2 You are probably right, and ALL the politicians joining may not stick with PTI. Imran Khan's previously said that, of the ~1000 candidates required, PTI will put up a new generation of candidates in urban areas where PTI's name is enough to win elections.

In rural constituencies where "baradries" are entrenched, it is very difficult for a candidate with no backing/history in the region to come in and win an election. In these constituencies, one out of two or three well-established faces always win.

Whether PTI will become another Q-League remains to be seen. All the politicians that joined Q-League weren't opportunists, Nawaz Sharif was very appalling in the late 90's and was angling to modify the constitution to become "Ameer-ul-Momineen" for life. Many people were truely disgusted by the unprecedented level of power-angling, and wanted out. These politicians will either stick with PTI's agenda(and it is a difficult agenda for politicians to adhere to, especially declaration of real assets, doing politics under a non-party member run NAB). Imran Khan says he's going for people who atleast abstained from financial corruption, despite being tainted otherwise.

Even if these politicians leave, it wouldn't really matter after PTI comes into power and has a chance to prove if it really works for change or not. Nawaz Sharif has already formed Punjab provincial governments five times, nothing's changed. PPP has also been tried pretty thoroughly. I'd say PTI deserves atleast one fair chance to prove if they're different or not. And PTI can't do that(come to power) without power in rural areas, which these politicians represent(~50 National Assembly seats centered around rural Central&Southern Punjab, out of ~1000).
