Jats may resume protest in Haryana, demand 'martyr' status for dead protesters

Chandigarh: It seems Jat agitation has not completely settled down as the leaders from the community are now demanding 'martyr' status for those who died during the protest last month.
According to India Today, the Jat leaders have threatened to resume protests if their demands are not met.

Furthermore, they have demanded that cases against the protesters be also dropped.

The community has threatened to return to streets if their demands are not met. However, the state government claims that it is prepared to deal with any situation.


Meanwhile, an all-party meeting has been called on Saturday to prepare a blue print of the Jat reservation bill.


“We will protest in Haryana, Delhi and UP against the arrests. If government will not agree to our 7 demands then we will agitate,” India Today quoted a Jat.

Last month, Jat protesters had caused havoc in the state by torching several shops and malls, destroying public property and resorting to violence.

The country needs to move from a reservation based system which only encourages petty vote bank politics to a more of merit based system where the classes of people should be based on Economic levels and per family income based on last 3 years tax filing.

The lowest of the filing strata and the family members should be eligible for benefits for encouraging them to come at par with national average of economic prosperity.

The system should be transparent and the methodology for evaluation and classifying should be crystal clear.

The country needs to avoid reservation system for future generations.. it has served the purpose of old times and is now a legacy system which is only creating more burden.

Its shameful that petty politics gets played on over and over again on reservations and thus we need to abolish all this nonsense and move on.

The focus should be merit and benefits based on economic prosperity of family head/heads to base on such government aided benefit schemes.

A continue movement, too much of protests, too much of violence, not good at all. The system of reservation or quota indeed creates hurdles sometimes but it is not feasible where no class or caste system persist or is intact so no quota system works along. IMO, in this case along with others, quota system was designed subject to providing the rights and space as per % of CASTE which may always result in such situations. Whatever the system is based upon caste or class will not live longer or prosper so to avoid any such threat or situation, equality is the best solution and the matter should be addressed with despite any caste.

call me racist but jats are as*holes... there might be few good ones here and there... I have rarely seen people saying good things about jats.. always causing trouble picking fights for no reason...
even though lot of them are rich(probably more than others % wise), the mindset is backward.

the quota system was to provide upliftment for backward castes, but influential and powerful castes are trying to include themselves in 'backward' category... that defeats the whole purpose of affirmative action.
if patels and jats are backward then why just leave out brahmins.. add them too... everybody is backward in India..

apparently only 3 percent of Indians pay taxes, govt does not know economic data about bulk of people. The system cannot be replaced, yet.
besides society puts backward caste people at disadvantage even to those who are able to compete with forward caste people. Any place which has forward caste people in decision making will choose their own people over backward caste people, if there is no objective assessment like exam. As forward caste people already dominate many sectors, its not going to help backward caste people.
