Article: Fuji TV apologizes for subtitles inaccurately quoting South Koreans | The Japan Times

Discussion: Japanese TV channel ran false subtitles in interviews with South Koreans in order to fan anti-Korean sentiment : worldnews

Among people interviewed on the streets of Seoul was a high school girl, who, according to the subtitles, said, “I hate Japan because it tormented Korea.”

However, she can be heard saying in Korean: “(South Korea) has a rich culture. I think that’s why many foreigners visit us.”

Basically, a Japanese tv station use false subtitles to misrepresents what the South Korea said to create more hurtful feelings between the two countries.

It is shameful actions like this that keep people of NEAsian countries disliking and, in some cases, hates each other.

I really hope the people that's responsible for this gets fired.

japan is fanning anti-korean feelings because the japanese know japan is screwed with nuclear radiation contamination and unfit to live. tokyo is already uninhabitable. the contamination is spreading each passing day. the whole of japan may become uninhabitable one day. they are probably preparing an invasion of korea, again. lol

Japanese TV and some japanese are racist.I remember that few years ago I happened to see a Japanese TV program that they pay money to let Some Chinese and other foreigners to blame each other about how ungrateful and bad China and Chinese are. That is childish and disgusting.I can still feel their hatred to Chinese.

Japanese propaganda at its best. Typical of a rapidly declining country that is becoming irrelevant with each passing day.

japan is sadomasochistic. it enjoys being slapped around.

Japan enjoys being under colonial rule. Other countries hate being ruled under colonial rule and does their best to escape from colonial rule but Japan loves being under American colonial rule where the Americans even wrote the entire Japanese constitution. How embarrassing.

Calm down folks, FUJI TV already apologized for the subtitle error. There's no need to get sentimental, or use this as a pretext to air anti-japanese hatred. Anyways, as per the subtitle issue, the FUJI TV subtitles didn't say anything negative about South Korea at all, or defamed the South Korean people, it was just a simple translation error. Happens all the time.

Let's not politicize this minor issue and don't make a mountain out of a molehill.

There are already enough angers/dislikes/hate going around NE Asian countries and stuff this Japanese TV channel is doing is not going to help at all. Lastly, it is not all Japanese, it is just this stupid japanese tv station.

Of course there are some crazy idiot$ in Japanese media, there are crazy right wingers, as there are some off the wall left wingers as well. I mean, isn't that common in any country? Right here in the US, there are crazy nut jobs who are KKK members, then there are even nut jubs who actually believe in illuminati theories and the threat of the 'new world order'.

There are people in media ; radio, tv personalities who say things off the wall for attention. Those aren't main stream.

Peace.

''Moderated by popular freelance journalist Akira Ikegami, the program featured a segment about “why Koreans hate the Japanese so much.''

This says all. This is one of the many reasons why I view so-called ''freelancers'' more of a cancer than a blessing to real journalism, and therefore trustworthy and unbiased information. So many times have I fumed when regarding to subjects about Syria, the public channels ALWAYS seem to quote a non-peer reviewed source like SOHR, a so-called organization that literally started as a facebook page and was being run from some dude's apartment in London.

When the news in Asia-Pacific involves USA, Japan, Philippines and Vietnam, expect the Chinese members here to reply in the most "hilarious way", making a fuzz about it like as if the news is a national pri-... *ahem* security issue for them.

Well said buddy, and i think FUJI TV will take the necessary steps to censure freelance journalists who implicitly do these things at the expense of the parent organization and the viewers that watch. Normally, to be honest, when radical extremist groups say things in Japanese media, their words are usually taken with a very large grain of salt. In fact, overly passionistic statements in Japanese media is even looked down upon. We like calm, serenity, and if emergencies are reported, we respond to it and react to it with sublime humility and calm demeanor.

Overly loud statements, boisterous, are , generally, seen as unattractive and very unnecessary.

We don't do excessive emotionality.
