Japanese soccer club fined over racism | SBS News
The Japan Professional Football League said on Friday it had decided to fine Yokohama F Marinos five million yen ($A52,150) over racist behaviour by one of their supporters.
Yokohama banned the teenager indefinitely soon after he waved a banana towards a Brazilian player in the match against Kawasaki Frontale on August 23.
Yokohama said the fan admitted his behaviour towards Kawasaki's attacker Renato was an "act of provocation" during the 2-0 win.
The incident came about five months after the J-League forced Urawa Reds to hold a game behind closed doors as a penalty for their supporters displaying a racist banner at a stadium entrance, which was not removed until after the March 8 home game .
The stadium entrance banner from Urawa Reds supporter says "Japanese Only!!".
But to be fair, it was another Japanese Urawa fan who complained about the racist banner (which the stadium guards initially ignored, but team officials later apologized).
