Japanese plane circles over China-claimed region in South China Sea

The "edge of Reed Bank" is not even part of the Spratlys, and nowhere near our islands under our physical control. Neocons tried to make a big deal of Japan confronting the dragon in its den - it turns out the Japanese are only willing to nudge one toe into the boundary of the forest that the dragon lives in

Precisely, the japanese plane has not even enter the disputed area and the west fabricated news of japanese plane entering the area. Japanese plane do know what they are doing and they know they are not stupid enough to be make use by philippines.

Was your construction able to stop Japanese or American plane fly over "your" island?

If it can't, then why do they care?

once those air bases on the islands completed and armed, those P3s will be quickly intercepted before they get closer. right now it's too far from the mainland. enjoy while they still can

So you are saying before the Airbase is finished in spratly, PLAAF have no way to intercept US or Japanese P-3 flying over the island??

lol, you crack me up.

those islands are too far down south, not like diaoyu islands. nobody can stop those constructions anyway. lol. why waste fuel and fucked up other things when by the time you get there the p-3 probably already gone... the japs know this more than anyone with nearly 1000x jets scrambled last year and those islands are much much closer to their base

You do know PLAAF have long been intercepting US Aircraft in SCS long before any airfield were being constructed in SCS right??

This happened last year

Responding to China’s Air Intercept | The Diplomat

And the distant between Hainan and Sansha is not at all unreachable, it's merely 950 mile, where a standard Su-27 have a range of over 2000 mile....an Su-27 can reach sansha from Hainan even without drop tank.

And you do not intercept aircraft when they are on top of you, you use your radar and detect the aircraft before they enter your airspace, then launch and interceptor.

You do know about all this, right?

scs is big. maybe you need look at the map. china never intercepted any plane around spratly Islands where the yankee and jap P-3 did their flyover. also, i've never said unreachable. it's just not worth it when all the other countries do is barking and nothing...

Did I say China intercept aircraft in Spratly last year? I don't believe I do, I was making my point China intercept other from Hainan before any airfield were completed in SCS

And as I said, Nansha Island is a mere 728 mile from Hainan, J-11 or Su-27 launched from Hainan have more than enough range to cover that.

that was near sansha island closer to hainan

The difference is, the west never claim the ocean, it means absolutely jack shit to them whether you build an Island or a toilet in those chain.

US and Japan have no stake on the Island, nor do the US support anyone on the dispute, why do they have to care what do you build on it?? lol
we get islands, that is enough for protecting our people & country

some 054A is there

Who can stop China's construction?

One problem global warming will solve.

Thanks Climate Change: Sea-Level Rise Could End South China Sea Spat | The Diplomat

With imminent sea-level rise on the horizon, the low-lying islands of the SCS will likely disappear; thus jeopardizing the framework of this pivotal convention, while scuttling the various claims. For the Chinese, a tremendous amount of EEZ-based territory would be potentially lost as underscored by their infamous nine-dash line that dips deep into the SCS. In the background of rising sea level, it would behoove China to consolidate and legitimize its claims soon, either through diplomatic means or force, rather than later. This would likewise be true for the other claimants.

Those SCS Islands will be turned into Chinese military bases.

Chinese air assets will be stationed on them along with air defences.

SCS is about to become China's private lake.

China will deploy the J-11D which is more than enough to take care of the Japanese Air Force.

Once the J-20 comes into service next year, Chinese air power will increase SIGNIFICANTLY.

Indeed, the current stage in SCS is capability build-up. You cannot act on hot rhetoric if the required infrastructure/logistics is missing. Flying over, near, across, by China's islands/claimed territories with no real tangible result is meaningless. If certain countries really oppose China to ensure its national security, then, they need to stop China from capability build-up in an area that they claim does not belong to China. Otherwise, with planes flying by or not, the construction will continue and it indeed does.

One more time, SCS will not be locked up by China. But China just needs the capability that will allow it to take the most drastic measures if it all comes down to that point. In the absence of a major crisis, all China will do is to track and monitor and chase away pirates and spies from its territorial waters. Freedom of navigation will be ensured to its bone.

True.

I think China should deploy its Y-8Q Martime Patrol Aircraft (equivalent to the P-3C) to send a message.

Then send a couple of J-10B or J-11D or J-16 just to show China too can deploy its air assets to the SCS anytime it wants. Heck, it might be nice to see the H-6K strategic nuclear bomber do a patrol of the SCS.

I am glad the Type 056/A corvette and various coast guard ships are being built in vast numbers. China should deploy these naval assets too. Type 054A is coming along very nicely too.

Then built more oil rigs like the 981 and deploy it to the SCS.

What I'm saying is that China should deploy more air assets, naval assets, commercial assets to the SCS, in addition to the construction in the SCS.

Then set up an ADIZ in the SCS.

Btw, I personally cannot wait till the J-20 is patrolling the SCS.

Good times for China and very bad times coming up for the enemy.

I love when they pretend to act tough against us. LOL Build build build. Wait until we finish and set air base there to check.
