Soviet went banckupt not because of the missiles program but geopolitical mis-calculation and threat assessement, if China and Soviet got alone, this world will still bi-polar: communist and capitalist. As for China, since the opening, we're on steady rise this is due to the fact we have draw lessons from others and calibrate ourself to adapt with new situation. Missile might not cost effective but it's still valuable.
Errrr...Yeah...Philosophically believing missiles would provide a credible defense was a major part of that 'mis-calculation and threat assessment'.

A missile is essentially a throwaway weapon. That is like having a single shot pistol and throw it away after you pulled the trigger. All the while your opponent is developing reusable multiple shots machine guns. Yes, each missile will be less costly than an aircraft carrier or an air base and you can build a lot of them. But each missile is also far less flexible and limited in deployment, and am willing to bet dollars to doughnuts that no Chinese members here will properly understand the context of 'deployment', a missile cannot have its mission changed once launched, a missile cannot report the dynamics of a battlefield, leaving its masters really clueless, a missile cannot provide feedback on enemy responses...Do I need to continue?

I hope the entire PLA leadership thinks like you do.

.
The Japanese , truly, have a proud naval history. They obliterated the Russian Baltic Fleet during the Russo-Japanese War, forcing the Romanov Government to sue for peace. During WWII, well during the first 6 months of the war, the Nihon Kaigun (Imperial Japanese Navy) not only struck the US Pacific Fleet, but crushed the Royal Navy's , the Dutch Navy's, and the French Navy's squadrons stationed in their overseas territories in the Pacific.

Not to mention prior to the this, the 1st and 2nd Sino-Japanese Wars, the Japanese Navy defeated Chinese Navy in all occasions.

It was only the United States Navy, through attrition warefare, that was able to overcome the Imperial Navy. However, the Japanese were and are...masters of naval warfare.
Imperial Japan´s biggest mistake was attacking America, like Nazi Germany invading the Soviet Union: their root cause of defeat.

Imperial Japan´s biggest mistake was attacking America, like Nazi Germany invading the Soviet Union: their root cause of defeat.

USA had already declared war against Japan. Of course, history is written by the victors. The winning party twisted history to serve their own interests.

On November 25 Henry L. Stimson, United States Secretary of War noted in his diary that he had discussed with US President Franklin D. Roosevelt the severe likelihood that Japan was about to launch a surprise attack, and that the question had been "how we should maneuver them [the Japanese] into the position of firing the first shot without allowing too much danger to ourselves."

This was USA's ultimatum to Japan.

you really need to laugh hard to some Chinese member here.

Japanese wanted Air Craft Carrier. So what, big deal, even if tomorrow Japan want to drop the pacifist stance, what can China do about it? Talk to Japan??

This is the main point, China can NEVER interfere with Japan's Internal Affair, even if Japan ask US for a Nimitz, it is none of Chinese business, the perceived "They have a carrier and now they will go rampage like WW2" have got to drop. Because, well, there are nothing China can do about it.

Secondly, you also need to laugh at Chinese and their Military technicality.

It is literally impossible for Chinese to operate more than 4 Carrier unless the current situation changed (Ie Having overseas naval bases or have extension of their territories) Only 2 Naval Yard are big enough to accommodate any repair work, dry dock work and berthing facilities. 2 Docks can service 2 carriers at a time and put 2 carriers out at sea. Supporting ship also taking up berthing place and dry docks, and please do remember, China only have 1 coast. They are not like US which have 2 and multiple bases overseas , or Japan, which literally surrounded by seas. Put aside the fact that Japan used to service Fleet carrier during WW2, their basic infrastructure will still be in place. Where China is a new comer to Carrier Warfare.

If there are anyone who should worry about the rise of Japanese NAVY again, it will be the USA, not China, we have bases there, you don't....

What you said is true!

China is pathetic as usual. Crying like a baby!

That is why Taiwan and US want to overthrow CCP and replace it with the capable one. Who will have more responsibility to the world peace, by starting to deal with Japan internal politics, then continued with South and North Korea (at the end it will united them), then Vietnam, Philippine, so on.

Japan was already guilty for the first place. As they want to became a world strong power to rival Western colonial power.

All of these dramas, was to make sure Japan to attack and then US had a moral reason to annihilate it.

It happened again in '80-'90, as Japan was trying to cross the red line in economy.

I want to add another point..

If their indecision of arming aircraft with torpedo/bombs didn't come into play, they could even wiped out 3 USN carriers just like that and can have left the USN's Pacific fleet Carrier less..they lost 3 carriers within few minutes, mainly due to wasting time for changing from torpedo to bombs to torpedo again and were unable to launch aircraft for fleet defence..at the meantime their bomber aircrafts returned and they had to deal with it..so,when US aircrafts struck them, they were completely without air cover..

Yes, since Japan wanted to become a world power rivaling the Western colonial powers, Japan was guilty. Going by the same analogy, today, China is guilty as it wants to be a regional power rivaling other Asian powers, right?

Imperial Japan´s biggest mistake was attacking America, like Nazi Germany invading the Soviet Union: their root cause of defeat.

actually, their main mistake was attacking midway without proper intelligence..they believed that their carriers were in Hawaii while their carriers were stationed right under the nose of midway..In the battle of Midway, they lost 4 carriers..thats where the fate of Japan was decided..

Battle of Midway - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

If japan won that battle, entire war scenario would've changed dramatically as then they would attack USA's coast area and not the otherwise..but yes, attacking USA was a mistake, but in their eyes, its the war for survival..

sounds interesting as coming from the Taiwanese LOL
Actually Japanese army needs to get stronger to counterbalance China. Nobody wants hegemony of one country.

Shattered Trident Hardcover
by Larry Bond (Author)

While trailing a Chinese nuclear attack sub, Jerry Mitchell, the captain of USS North Dakota, is shocked to see the Chinese boat torpedo a Vietnamese merchant ship.

This blatant act of aggression is the opening gambit in a war that has blindsided the U.S. and quickly embroiled all nations in the western Pacific. These nations, bound together in the newly formed Littoral Alliance, have begun a covert submarine campaign aimed at crippling China’s economy before China can set in motion its own plot to dominate the region.

In a desperate attempt to buy the president enough time to resolve the crisis diplomatically, Mitchell’s submarine squadron is ordered to interfere with attacks by both sides. China and the Littoral Alliance are both determined to win, no matter the cost, and as each side increases the level of violence, they approach a dangerous tipping point. Larry Bond's Shattered Trident is a race against time, as the submarines of Mitchell’s squadron must execute their mission before the world witnesses an economic catastrophe—or worse, a nuclear exchange.
Poor foreign diplomacy!

S.Korea not alliance with Japan, specially for WWII history & right-wing from inside Japan. In the West Pacific at least China can stay together with Russia and S.Korea to face rising Japan Navy. Russia, Korea, China three countries never be PEACE with Japan(aggression) since hundred years. If Japanese still keep their Asia ambitions, in the Northeast Asia there's only one potential common enemy.

BTW poor PLAN 052B DDG

Today all of East Asia would have still been under the strict rule of white Western colonizers, had Japan not sacrificed its own existence for your liberation. For your today, Japan sacrificed its yesterday.

Chinese act as if the white colonizers treated them any better than the Japanese. Do they know how they had been treated since their defeat since the Opium Wars by the white men?

If Japanese had not been there to rescue you, white men would have still banging your women in front of you inside your bedrooms. Get this clear

Chinese are different type, they will fascinate themselves when they see new shiny defence toys and also when they read Megatons of yield of missiles. :D

U forget PLAN CV16 "LiaoNing"(60,000ton A.C) still bigger than Izumo class, and J-15 Navy fighters trainning on the deck. Well Japan might get their F-35B untill 2017-2020, China also developing & testing new-gen fighter(J-20,J-31 etc) . 2018 China J-20 must join PLAAF, before 2020 China can own >1,000 3gen & 4gen fighters and more power.

China was building type001A and type002 domestic aircraft carriers, each bigger(> 60,000) than type001 CV16. 2020 we will see at least 3x PLAN aircraft carriers with hundred J-15 fighters, China "LiJian" stealth drones and China Navy next-gen fighters(maybe developed from J-20).

The truth is most Chinese living in mainland of China working and fighting for our Great China, i just really don't know u and ur guys living TaiWan doing what for China ?

The year of 2020 is a key time for Chinese, if we can't stop other country's arms and right-wing changes the only thing is armed to the teeth.

Here someone dream Japan defeat China, more security when Japan to replace China in Asia? Just not learn the lesson from WWII, ur mineral & oil resources and lands r lack in Japan islands. When Japan STRONG, they will do it again like what ever did in WWII.
