Today Japan unveils warship, next day China or Russia will unveil other military toys, not one will forver sit idlely...the arm race will keep moving, with the second military budget of the world, China can certainly afford to do something significanly...let wait and see: now we have so many projects in pipeline: J-15s, J-20, J-31, Y-20, long range UVA, stealth UVA, Laoning sea trial....it will just a matter of time that we will find the answer to any threat either from Japan or U.S.

Japan just unleashed one of its largest warships ever. Dubbed Izumo, it's a flat top destroyer that Japan says isn't an aircraft carrier. But look at it. One of its main duties is to "carry aircraft." You sly devils you, Japan.

Izumo has been under construction for the last four years, and it was designed to be used in national defense. The 250 meter flat deck will be used to carry 14 helicopters. It is not technically an aircraft carrier. That is because an aircraft carrier could be seen as a military vehicle meant for offensive, not defensive, campaigns.

Japan is constitutionally not allowed to maintain an offensive military force, something that happened after World War II.

This ship comes on the heels of Hyuga, another, similar ship which was launched in 2011.

Izumo isn't quite long enough for regular take-off and landing, nor does it have any of the catches or catapults to send out a fighter. However, it could be able to accommodate vertical take-off and landing crafts in the future.

Japan says they have no plans to use it like an aircraft carrier.

On serious note. What ever changes in military doctrine by the Japanese is because of the aggressive stand of the Chinese.. If only they acted peacefully as they claim to be, Asia would have rallied behind them.. Instead they think they can bully their neighbors just as they wished..

We will deal with Japan if it turns Nazi, China is most important peaceful force in Asia. As long as China is prosperous and powerful, Japan extreme right wing is dead duck.

People should need a lecture before they post technical post here......

Many things is simply wrong, with either deliberate wrong interpretation of facts or omission of some facts..

1.) F-35B is NOT a VTOL (Vertical Take Off and Landing) aircraft, its a STOVL (Short Take Off, Vertical Landing)

You cannot operate a fully fuelled and fully armed STOVL planes off a LHD like Hyuga or Izumo, you either need a long flight deck or Ski Jump to operate a fully fuelled and armed STOVL Craft.

F-35B is most likely to replace AV-8B or BAe Harrier II with navy operating long flight deck LHA or Ski Jump mini carrier, Izumo and Hyuga have NEITHER

HMS Ocean and HMS Illustrious both have similar general characteristic, both 200 (+ Change) meters long and with 32 meters beam and both weighted about 20000 tonnes, the only fact that HMS Ocean are not certified for Harrier Operation simply because they do not have Ski Jump.

2.) Japanese have their own say on what they want, they are bounded by "THEIR OWN" constitution, which they can change as they wish. They are not bounded by any treaty nor International Governance.

3.) I keep seeing people say "Carry", what you can carry DOES NOT MATTER, what you can launch did, you can carry F-35B with a Cargo ship, does that mean you can launch a F-35B on a cargo ship deck??

The recent issues with most of your neighbors does not indicate that your country wants any peace..

So what? Its their country, their rule.. I dont see them crying all over when you added an air craft carrier.. If your country was wise enough to resolve the issue through diplomacy instead of bullying them, then they wouldn't have developed this kind of weapons in first place.
