Japan to Beef Up Maritime Defense

Japan will massively reinforce its maritime defense because it feels threatened by China's expanding military power amid a territorial dispute over the Senkaku (or Diaoyu) Islands.

Tokyo is expected to revise its defense white paper for the first time in six years, including deploying troops on Yonaguni Island, close to Taiwan, and lifting a ban on weapons exports, the South China Morning Port reported on Sunday

The white paper, which is expected to be released next month, will announce a plan to reinforce troops on islands that stretch southwest between the Japanese mainland and Taiwan. It will also include deployment of commando troops on Yonaguni Island, Japan's westernmost island southwest of the Senkaku Islands, and the construction of military facilities on four or five nearby islands, the Hong Kong daily said.

The white paper will pave the way for Japanese munitions manufacturers to participate in joint arms development programs with the U.S., Australian, Indian and Korean firms, and loosen restrictions on weapons exports.

Finally, I hope for more ASW capabilty for both nations and later maybe MBT and 5./6. gen fighter developments. Japan would be a good partner for us with future techs in mind.

Certainly. This is a welcoming article. Japanese are extremely smart people and their expertise in arms technology will be definitely an asset in our weapons development. There are many regions where they are experts and some regions where we are.

A combination could be terrific. However I doubt any JV for fighters will ever come since Japanese economy is really down and we already have too many projects right now to handle. Perhaps creation of SMART SOLDIER is an option for ground troops parallel and similar to FINSAS.

Well Shin Shin fighter is on the cards. If we can manage to rope these guys in for our AMCA joint development and production it would be awesome. and they can bring in their expertise in avionics and radar.

But will Japanese pride allow them to co-operate with us?

Japanese can be good friend to us.We both are developing 5TH gen. fighter.
If we JV then it will good for both the countries.
