Japan to ban Huawei, ZTE from govt contracts: Report

TOKYO (REUTERS) - Japan is set to effectively ban government purchases of telecommunications products from China's Huawei Technologies and ZTE Corp over fears of intelligence leaks and cyber attacks, the Yomiuri newspaper reported on Friday (Dec 7).

The government is expected to revise its internal rules on procurement as early as Monday (Dec 10). It is unlikely to name the two companies, to avoid aggravating China, but Huawei and ZTE are to be subject to the ban, the report said, citing a government source.

The report follows a decision by the United States this year to ban government purchases of Huawei gear.

US intelligence agencies allege Huawei is linked to China's government and that its equipment could contain "backdoors" for use by spies, although no evidence has been produced publicly and the firm has denied the claims.

In addition, Australia and New Zealand have blocked Huawei from building 5G networks, while Britain's BT Group said on Wednesday it was removing Huawei's equipment from the core of its existing 3G and 4G mobile operations and would not use the Chinese company in central parts of the next network.

i've read this before. the ban is to do with government procurement, which is reasonable. not outright ban like in the US. huawei can still sell to softbank, ntt, etc that provide services to consumers and businesses. korea is doing the same too and huawei is still winning 5g contracts from their private carriers.

China and the Chinese companies are shameless international pirates too eager to peek through others inventions and steal them. Chinese are worse than the Nigerian scumbags.

It's a cycle of Life. If u don't want to be part of cycle, you will be alive in Scumbag forever. (like bangladeshi scumbag).

Western shamelessly Steal and pirate Chinese invention (Compass, paper, Gun powder, and many others) in order to Rise.

Japan also shamelessly steal and pirate western car technology before building their own (Read biography of Kiichiro toyoda before building toyota company today).

Everybody do the same, that's part of the law of learning and doing.
But China today is not 10 or 20 years ago, they lead in some key Technologies, like Quantum Satellite Communication, and 5G Communication Technology.

If u don't do that, you will keep life in Scumbag paradise all the time.

India,Australia,New Zealand,US,UK(British Telecom) and now Japan- The list keeps growing!

Huawei is the top telecommunication supplier and global leader in technology. Countries can ban them now under the pressure from the US, but as soon as they realize that if continue the ban, they will be falling behind other countries who use Huawei, they will be forced to accept.

Do not think that the list will be long, or the ban can last.
