Come on buddy. Currently we spend less than 0.9% on our GDP for national defense. No comparison. The truth is Japan doesn't even put too much resources for defense. We dont even spend 1% on GDP on defense, come on. Now if Japan was like American and spent 4% on GDP on national defense --- that would put it at $240 Billion per annum --- then that's when you would start to worry, lol.


But as it stands we spend more on social services for our senior citizens , and on pensions than on national defense. lol.

You do understand that there is such a professional relationship between the JSDF and the PLA --- and rapport system that has been set in place these past several decades , right? So efficient that there has been no instance of shooting, between the Airforces, Navies of Japan and China. Compare that to the border flashes between China and say Vietnam, India, North Korea, why even with Russia.

Its just the nature of geopolitics, lol. On one side Japan cautions the US on the threat of Chinese hegemony, while on the same time Japan endorses the China-Japan-SK Environmental Protection Agreement. Japan redefines its defense posture with the US on one side, but the other, endorses increased investment in China at a level of an increase in 4% just on 2015 alone. As we speak, the level of trade between Japan and China is already nearing half a Trillion USD. lol.

This is how East Asia works. Just diplomatic pleasantries, the learned intellectuals on both sides know how to read between the lines.

Afterall, Japan and China didn't start 'communicating' with each other just in this century, lol. Diplomatic relations go back over 2.5 millenia. LOL!

Will be interesting to see how soon they come out of the closet and write down the assets that no longer exist ($28T according to Bloomberg and $6T admitted according to Global Times). Meanwhile Japan has pretty much had enough of the Beijing nonsense and is beginning to make its moves. While both India and Japan have the US support, India is holding back due to its economic and technology priorities whereas Japan is already way ahead of the Chinese technologically so they will not brook mischief.

China is a big country and should learn to behave with maturity and responsibility.

I still believe, it is very important for the Chinese and Japanese to become friends, trading partner and allies.

They can both benefit each other a great deal. Fighting between China and Japan will only entertain the US.

Japan is an occupied country. It cannot go against US policy. It can resist militarization however and a more active engagement in Cold War 2. But the Abe government is more gung ho to confront China than Washington is.

By signing Japan in its China-containment game, if the US is trying to raise the threat it has failed. China's approach has always been peaceful but China will not run away from foreign aggression either. Empty threats are just showing their weakness.
