Japan seeks foreign engines for stealth fighter prototypes

All the best to the Japanese for their project. Though the chance is very low, if Japan selects Kaveri than it will be a new era for Indian and Japanese defence industries. One side lack something that other side don't. Actually Indians complete Japaneses. lol

I still cant believe it..nevrthless no doubt Kaveri engine is proving to be a hit evn in the devlopment phase.
BTW any idea why they chose Kaveri engines ?? I mean there are many proven engines as options for a fifth gen fighter.

They have just sent the RFI(Request for information) to different countries including India. They haven't selected the engine yet.

.
Btw, what is the current status in development of Kaveri? Have they already signed the contract with Schnema to help in development?

Kaveri is currently undergoing high altitude flight tests in Russia. Snecma-GTRE JV is for Kaveri-II, a higher thrust engine for LCA-II.

Kaveri already had undergone high altitude testing and met with success.

India's to flight-test first indigenous jet engine next month

Bangalore: After two decades of research and development, India is all set to flight-test its first indigenously developed jet engine next month, an official said today.

"Kaveri engine will be flight-tested in one-and-half months... Should be after middle of May," director of Bangalore-based Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE), a DRDO lab, T Mohana Rao, told PTI here.

It would be flight-tested using the IL-76 aircraft in Russia, he said.

The Kaveri engine, meant for India's fighter jet, the Light Combat Aircraft Tejas, has completed all simulation and altitude tests. The altitude tests in Russia in February were a "grand success", he said.

GTRE officials said around Rs3,000 crore has been spent on the Kaveri project.

Rao said GTRE is now looking to reduce the weight of the Kaveri engine to 50 kg from 60 kg. "It has to be fine-tuned. We will go in for lot of optimisation in future".

GTRE, which is engaged in research and development of gas turbines for military aircraft, has so far developed nine Kaveri engines and four Kabini (core of Kaveri). "All engines have been tested to full potential," he added.

^^ looks like a smaller F 22 to me!! checkout their Mistubhsi F-2 that's enlarged F-16 made with assistance from Lockheed Martin!! I am sure on this one also LM would be helping them!!

P.S -: Is it really some prototype, or someone had RC of F22 and made a youtube vids, added cut scenes from some new channel! anyway who in this part of the world(South Asia) understands Japanese so perfect candidate to be fooled.

Japanese are one of the most laborious, punctual and intelligent people around the globe. Word Impossible is not in their dictionary. And i find this idea intriguing instead of going all alone and developing a tech solely on our money, we can share development cost.

Don't forget imperial Japan and their arforce just 60 years ago. They don't have any experience now but when they step in fighter aircraft field, they will be one of the best.

Recently, US is busy dragging Japanese car companies into courts and insulting their automobile expertise in public.

It seems US has smelled India and Japan getting closer.

Arrogance doesn't win any friends.

I was thinking the same thing. But the interviews cast doubt in my mind. if it is a fake it is a very well done one.
