Japan opens doors to skilled foreign workers under new visa system
Not to Bangladeshi workers
Md Owasim Uddin Bhuyan | Published: 01:08, Apr 02,2019

Japan on Monday opened its doors to workers of nine Asian countries under a new visa system.

Bangladesh would not get the opportunity.

In December, Tokyo took the decision to allow Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam to send their skilled workers to Japan.

Japanese daily The Mainichi reported on Monday that Japan introduced the new visa system to bring in more foreign workers in a major shift in policy.

Traditionally, its strict immigration rules did not permit expatriates to work in Japan.
As hundreds of thousands of foreigners are expected to take up blue-collar and other types of jobs, a new immigration agency was established on Monday to oversee visa inspections and support the settlement process for such people, reported The Mainichi.

Foreigners with certain Japanese language and job skills can now apply for resident status called Specified Skilled Worker No. 1, which grants working rights in 14 sectors, such as construction, farming and nursing care, for up to a total of five years, says the report.

Proficient laborers in two sectors -- construction and shipbuilding -- can further extend their stay by earning the Specified Skilled Worker No. 2 status. It would allow the holders to bring in family members with no limit on the number of times they would be entitled to renew their visa.

The Japanese government expects up to 345,150 foreigners to acquire the No. 1 type visa over the next five years, with the largest number of 60,000 workers expected to be in the nursing care business, it says.

The first delivery of the visa could possibly be seen from mid-April to applicants who are already in Japan and seek to change their status, according to a senior Justice Ministry official, says the report.

The introduction of the system, based on the revised immigration control law enacted in December, represents a major change for Japan, which had limited the issuance of working visas to people with professional knowledge and high skills, such as doctors, lawyers and teachers.

Japan only wants foreign workers that more or less look like them, Japanese and Koreans are the most racist countries in the world.

Well to some extent i agree...at the end of the day...every nation would like to assimiliate people who are simillar to their host nation...

Japanese are racist but Koreans are not that racist in my experience.

Opposite in my experience.

This move is more or less... Rational, not racial.

Its not based on looks but relations and expectations of skill.

The skill ceiling in Japan is extremely high and you'd need a bunch of years in your valued field to even be considered getting on par with the jobs there.

But to break the illusion of strict immigration... You can get a job, given you are qualified for it. - You just can't become an expat right off the bat without having to work for the residency there.

I know many people from Pakistan who did just that after receiving their bachelors.

It is quite possible, I have only been 4 times to Japan and stayed at max one month at a time while I spent more time in Korea (South Korea). But twice in Japan, I was mistreated by some random people on the streets. While in Korea, nothing such happened but they were quite inquisitive about me and invited me to their homes

Ah, well.
Bad eggs are everywhere.

In Japan , they are plenty of Yakuza and bosozuku who are uncivilized barbarian. They will taunt foreigner and spit at you.

As much as I hate to generalize, the Japanese were more ignorant than racist, probably due to their lack of understanding of foreign languages and knowledges. Another thing, is that they could be not too familiar with foreign faces so they have some kind of cautiousness and insecurities.

So should Japan admit Northeastern Indians. If they do but not to other Indians. Than they would be racist against Indians.

Indians can get back at Japan by

1) label Japan as a Dalit country.
2) Make another Supa Powa movie with Japanese servants.

Ignorance + insecurity lead to the racism/hate. These are the two key ingredients. All of the racist in the west spread false propaganda against immigrants & Islam which is based on their ignorance and insecurity. They exaggerate statistics and distort the facts and even fabricate nonsense against the target group(s). Japanese are on the whole humble people and most of the Japanese who travel abroad are more open to foreigners and foreign cultures while the ones who have never stepped out of their country are ignorant and more insecure as well.

It's not about traveling abroad, it's more about essence of their isolated culture as an island single nation state for thousands of years, Korea, to a lesser extent, is geographically similar to Japan where foreign interraction was very limited in their history.

If ignorance and insecurity is what lead to racism/hate, than India is the most racist nation out there
