Japan offers India soft loan for $15 billion bullet train

.
That's a valid point but what I am really concerned is if something goes wrong due to mismanagement or the like all the hell will break on China.

India will not necessarily be understanding, given that politics is very populist.

In those situation, Japan is more able to weather the storm because the Western press will not pick on them due to geopolitical factors.

I am in favor of China working with more friendly governments and peoples. If risks are to be taken, better take them in those countries. India seems to be good for risk-free business for China.
Nailed it. Imagine this scenario. China build HSR for India. China is paid. four years into the future Indian HSR get in a serious accident killing 10 people. The result was due to lack of proper and timely maintenance by Indian staff. Of course the TOI and CNN will have a title, "Chinese Built Indian HSR kills 10 due to Quality issues"

Best of luck to Japan. China should just work with 199 other countries. We can lose one to Japan.

India is a big country with a population of 1.2 billion and the world's fourth largest GNI. While its rapid economic growth, enormous amount of investment is still necessary for development of infrastructure such as roads, railways and other urban transportation systems, power, water supply and sewerage. India also must take measures to reduce poverty for huge population living under poverty line. JICA is actively providing assistance to construct infrastructure as well as poverty alleviation.

On August 1, 2011, a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement between Japan and India went into effect, and 2012 is a memorable year of the 60th anniversary of Japan-India diplomatic relations. JICA is providing assistance to realize Japan-India cooperation such as the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) and the Chennai-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC) in South India, as well as assistance to strengthen Japan-India academic-industry networks, and human resources development for industries such as manufacturing. JICA is extending its assistance to contribute to stronger relations between Japan and India in any capacity.

I think if Japan was the only country to win 90% of infrastructure contracts in India it can help push the stagnant Japanese economy back from a coma.
This is a win-win for Japan and India. Japi Japi Bhai bhai.

@Jlaw. If you are worried about what they are going to say about China you will never be able to do anything. Come on, when have you heard anything that is positive about us from these people?

But despite their massive, non-stop smear campaigns our products are still being sold all over the world. The reason is truth will always prevail. The business people and actual consumers understand the product and the cost.

There is no question that India is a vast country with unlimited market potential. We must not be intimidated by our enemies' ill intentions and lose sight of the big picture. We have to be patient and stay in the game.

If the Indian government handles it right, they should let China and Japan fight it out. Politically and emotionally they want Japan to have the business. But, China's power is just too great to be ignored. The most likely scenario is both China and Japan will end up getting a piece of the pie, a huge, huge one that is :coffee:

I think China got one project and the 2nd one is for Japan. Even i also feel that cost and expertise wise China may be cheaper but Japan have the advantage of technology superiority.

Guys you have to understand that in spite of both India and China having border disputes and having a histroy of war, we are still doing a bussiness of more than 50 Billion Dollar. What does that indicate? Does it indicate that we discriminate China in trade and bussiness ? No. Rather China should be smart enough to understand that China is slowly increasing its space in bussiness and investment in India in each passing year. Our Media may be doing all the noises about China.China is still not Pakistan for us. Becuase, in person to person level, Indian does not have that kind of ill filling for China and its people...

Yes, Japan is winning contract becasue Japan is engaged with India in doing bussines since last 40 years..They know the tricks and power brokers in our corridor and know how to get the things done in Indian enviroment...They have th experience to deal with Indian bussiness process...All the major investment or initiaves in India has the footprint of Japan...So they have basically first mover advantage...Even Russian and US companies does not operate so seemlessly than the way Japanies company operate in India...

Yes, that is an accurate analysis of the comprehensive and all inclusive nature of Japanese-Indian intergovernmentalist mechanisms.

That's refreshing to know @Shotgunner51 .

Japan should get the job -- if ever there is such a thing at all. Efficiency is not the most popular characteristics of Indian government, after all.

I agree with this one. The deal should go to Japan. Chinese HSR companies would be wasting their time plus India being India will next inform the Japanese, China offering them interest free loans for next 50 years. Japan will then have to up their offer or fear losing the deal.

Put it this way... these deals are not as straightforward as one imagine. The French have just gain new experience after they were given an order for 126 Rafale jetfighters way back 2011 after many years of negotiation, etc. Now even the 36 off the shelf deal is on the whole due to loads of new conditions.

Would Multinational firms passed their technologies to others not India alone. The answer is NEVER!

If the Indian nationalistic trolls insisted that Japan have better technology than China, let them have solely HIGH QUALITY and EXPENSIVE Japanese ride.

.
Have you ever done business with an Indian? Advice is: don't unless they pay upfront in cash.

Japan's HSR is already a failure as everybody sees in Taiwan. It is not even profitable to operate.

Let Japan sink their money into Indian corrupt pockets. Indians will get an overpriced unprofitable infrastructure. Indians will try to make more money by putting more passengers on the roof and clinging to the sides. Accident happens and Japan will get blamed by Indian media. Two sucky countries backstabbing each other.

:pop:

Have you done any business with an Indian? If Yes, care to share the experience?

Mostly all business these days are based on LC (Letter of Credit) mechanism which mitigates any default or fraud. If the documents are in order then banks release the payment - no ifs and buts.

.
China should not compete projects related to Indian or VN infrastructure. Let em pay more to the Japanese.

India did almost 100 billion dollars to-way trade with you guys last year. It is miniscule in your overall trade but does create tens of thousands of jobs in both our countries. It is the pragmatism that dictates that trade not ego and hate. Your govt. is more pragmatic than you are. Even if you guys are not going to invest in our country we will still trade with you guys because trade will bring people together and brings economic prosperity with it.

To all the detractors of Japanese HSR, i will post HSR in Taiwan (Japanese technology) and the ones in the Japanese Fatherland Proper. Enjoy ! And hope all will have an enlighten subjectivity of inherent truths regarding our technological abilities and prowess. Japan INVENTED Shinkansen, lest we forget. :)

HSR in Taiwan (Japanese HSR core technology):

Again, for your knowledge, it is not the 1st time that Japan operate in Indian bussiness. As i mentioned earlier, Japan is involved with most of the sphere of Indian nationhood. So do not think that they are not aware about the uncertainities of doing bussiness in India. Rather i would say that they are smart people who can even do in in highly complex enviroment like India since last 40 year...China may be experiencing it as a newcomer in INDIA but this is not the same for Japan.

Don't bother with that member. All of his posts are referring to India and Indian people as some kind of inferior , which is totally preposterous to begin with. There is an almost negative tone , almost even racist to his and some of our Chinese peers who are trying to undermine the growing Indo-Japanese co-development projects here.

India is a developing country, still. India still has much to do from the grassroots level up. Japan, as a nation that has over 70 years experience in working with and helping to develop nations post-war period, is totally prepared to invest in India and will work with our Indian peers' sensitivity. Some of our friends here think that Japan is a novice in national development. Not knowing that even before China opened her doors to market economics , Japan was already involved in helping develop China when she was still a third world, poorly developed nation.

Japan did not relegate inferiority on China, rather, we , through progressive mindset, helped to modernize our Chinese friends and invested in Sino-Japanese academic co-reciprocity systems in academic research and studies. We see the potential in nations , not the present limitations.

We see India's great potential. The same as we had seen China's some 40 years ago.

China has almost bagged the contract for the long distance Chennai - New Delhi high speed bullet train which is twice as costly as the Japanese Mumbai - Ahmadabad Japanese project - approx $15 billion more! :-)

The Irony is their own country i.e. China sees India's potential and is trying to engage India at multiple levels just to keep it neutral. China's major export financing institutions are involved in India in a big way, their marquee private sector companies have already invested billions in India and many more are in line.

It is a pity that some people over here so blinded by arrogance that they ignore what their own govt's view is about India and indulge in pointless bickering over here in PDF.

Yes. It is true we Singaporean have been doing businesses in India for a long time mostly as consultants for many projects there e.g. airports hence we truly understand the difficulties we faced in there even up till today.

I will not describe India as a highly complex environment as you put it but there are many problems which one would encountered that are unimaginable and unexpected until it happens.

I predicted and foreseened the problem faced by Dassault when India order the 126 Rafales way back then.

Yes. We are all still continuing to learn the new tricks of India businesses and like you says, it won't be easy for newcomers. Trust me, Japan has still got a lot to learn.

Good luck to the newcomers... Singaporeans not excluded.

Yes it is indeed so PATHETIC. As one who works in US Pharmaceutical sector and risk analysis sector of this industry , I deal with a lot of international players and fellow research analysts. Many of my peers at work and those who i meet at academic / industry consortiums are actually Indians. The level of Indian pharma collaboration with Japnaese pharma and American is just mind boggling. Anyways --- to some of the impudents here who think that Indians are somehow "inferior" have not gone into the pharma sector and seen the creative genius of Indian scientists who are paving ways in medical nanotechnology processes especially focused on oncology research and using nanoparticulate technology in administering membranous sensitive areas such as the Central nervous system's blood brain barrier --- a paradigm in brain oncology research , btw.

The idiots here , and there are many, who keep on propagating that Indians are somehow inferior or not at 'par' with Chinese are just so stupid its sickening. They know nothing. Let them remain oblivious to the Indian creative power that I have come to know and respect --- in my line of work.

My only recommendation to Indian people is: Ignore the detractors and haters. Let them keep on drinking their potent haterade. Keep on working, Indian peers, excellence afteral is a product of habit.
