According to Potsdam declaration, the 8th item,
Japanese sovereignty shall be limited to the islands of Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu, Shikoku, and such minor islands as we determine.

US without China's agreement returning Ryukyu to Japan is illegal. Even the returning is OK, Japan sovereignty over the islands is zero, as only administration right has been handed over.
Japan govt. should seriously and actively set a talk with China govt, and consider how to recover China's share over the islands. I bet Diaoyu island is only an appetizer.

don´t complain when we begin to build on ours. note, we possess the largest holding of islands and reefs, the potential of building is huge.
