Japan has never had smooth ties with China: Aso

Well,I don't think there is no need of an alliance against China right now..atleast,India has no need to join that alliance.Japan is sea -away from china, but China is our next door neighbour.never create an enemy in the neighbourhood.because, political alliance will come and go,but neighbour will remain same.we've our own issues and japan has theirs.we have the chance to solve our differences and prosper, while Japan's issues are different.I feel its kind of Political gang up to contain China,to control both Power Projection and Economic advancement.I don't think India will ever gang up on similar issues as if today China is in the harm's way for those reasons, next day,it'll be our turn.no denying the fact that China is acting like bully, trying very hard to project its growing power in a harsh manner, but that isn't enough to contain them yet.we need some greater cause..

The chinese pulled out inadvertently -surprising even the chinese here, India hasn't struck a "deal" nor has given in to their demands - now what made them change their minds suddenly?

Yes I was also taken aback when I learnt that no concessions were given at the end of face-off.
It might probably be the good Chinese intel sources which might have had gotten access to the contents of dialogue transpired among three of us during that Trilateral meet.

Only good fences makes good neighbours but, since we don't have good fence we can't have good neighbour for sure, we worked on your plan for five decades hence it's time to go to our Plan B.

As China's prowess increases, so does her ambitions and we alone are no match for her till at least 2020.So there should be very strong urge in Delhi's mind to search for coalition partner (which also has disputes with China )to ward off the threat from the North.

TOKYO —
Japan has never in the past 1,500 years had a smooth relationship with China, Japanese deputy prime minister Taro Aso was quoted Sunday as saying during a visit to India.

“India shares a land border with China, and Japan has had maritime contacts (with China), but for the past 1,500 years and more there has never been a history when our relations with China went extremely smoothly,” Aso said, according to the Nikkei and the Sankei Shimbun newspapers.

The comments at a meeting with Indian business people in New Delhi came amid continuing tensions between Japan and China over disputed Tokyo-controlled islands in the East China Sea.

Aso, a former prime minister, made the comment in response to a suggestion that Japan and India should strengthen defence and maritime cooperation since both have territorial disputes with China, the Sankei said.

India and China are in dispute over an alleged incursion by Chinese troops deep inside Indian-claimed territory.

Aso also called for close defense cooperation between Japan, Australia, India, and the United States to ensure regional stability, according to major media.

The increased aggressiveness in China's foreign policy by the new dispensation which has taken over the reins recently, is most likely designed to appeal to Chinese public opinion. China adheres to the ancient military strategist Sun Tzu’s counsel: “subdue the enemy without any battle” by exploiting its weaknesses and camouflaging offense as defense. “All warfare,” Sun as famously said, “is based on deception.” At the root of the growing tensions and insecurity in Asia is China’s ongoing strategy to subvert the status quo.

More broadly, China’s aggressive strategy against India and the littoral countries bordering the South China Sea notably Japan and Vietnam must be countered by forming an alliance with likeminded Asian-Pacific countries, the US and Australia. It will then be near impossible for China to face multiple fronts, politically and militarily. Keeping this in view, MMs extended visit to Japan must have sent alarm bells ringing in China's corridors of power as the start of a process to build a coalition to counter the Chinese threat. After all, discretion is the better part of mindless aggressiveness, just to appeal to Chinese public opinion.

I don't know what you said is right or not that Delhi has very strong urge to search for coalition partners.Delhi already denied those chances several times.but yes, situation is changing and China is becoming more and more aggressive in present years.you're right.we can't alone thwart the Chinese power projection, and hopefully,China is more busy for tackling the SCS issues than border issues with India.we should deal with this carefully or else we'll see more and more stand off and probably a bigger skirmishes in the coming years.

Surely points in the direction of mutual cooperation and a secret defense pact thats already in place, the Chinese are of course wary of it.

By supporting dictatorship regimes, supporting rogue and Islamist states, supporting maoists in Nepal China is not only harming us in our immediate neighborhood but also undermining us in any available international fora, also arming our neighbors, supplying them spying equipment, building ports around us in an apperent bid to surround us.

we will have to face them at one point of time, they have developed massive infrastructure spending to the tune of 325 billion on it so that they can move 30 divisions of troops within a month on our borders and past experiences point out to the fact that their movement against us will be swift and sudden without warning - no wonder that they furiously are objecting to our observation posts that can keep an eye on their movements.

Now can India match their massive infrastructure development or the hundreds of billions that they are pumping into their war machine? the answer surely is in the negative.

The chinese never honor any accords or treaties, they will lay claim or create issues with anyone depending on their geo strategic requirements, they have intentionally kept their biggest land disputes unresolved which happens to be with India so that it can be trumped up when required. So can we be assured that the chinese will not initiate coflict even if we cut a deal with them?? No, they will disshonor it when their geo strategy calls for it @Joe Shearer.

The chinese hold to ransom our water sources and are building massive dams on them, they have adamantly refused to sign a water sharing treaty or any accord for joint monitoring nor are acknowledge Indian concerns over it.

The chinese hackers incessently attack our sites and India is one of the biggest victims of cyber attacks, they have most of our secrets and are actively sizing us up.

Will china prevent us from seeking energy sources from the SCS while they actively dig in the Indian ocean thanks to sri lanka and bangladesh - of course they willl.

To add to that China will be our biggest irritant and opposition for our UNSC bid.

Many countries who are wary of China know pretty well that India is a target for the chinese - surely not now, but surely in the future.

Russia has been actively trying very hard to promote a Russia - China - India alliance, and who exactly has been scuttling that proposal - no surprises there - its china.

Can India alone withstand a major conflict with China? NO, can we match PLAAF plane for plane? NO, Can we match PLAN?NO, So whats preventing the chinese from getting aggressive atm, a weaker India and other enemies whom they look at as priorities.

So if we cannot match them and our smaller nuke arsenal, moderate delivery system and NFU policy removes the nuke deterrent being a concern for them can we count on beating them? will we need help from others to aid us? of course we will, now Russians have aided us in the past but will they aid us against china - dont think so. It makes sense to have a few friends in place at the time of need, and we need to acknowledge them at the moment. No two ways about that.

This indcisiveness and confusion is what is aiding them and helping them sort one enemy at a time, though they spread a net for all consequently.

The Ladakh incident should have cleared our minds already.

The thought that they are far away from us fighting with the SCS countries or Japan is actually not helping us in our defense and preparedness.

The chinese or Sun Tzu never factored in our mad crazy media, or the response their lameduck stunt will get ...I guess :D

Bingo

Excellent points raised.

I feel there is nothing much to add but these mindless incursions are sending out the wrong signals to us. An alliance with Japan and other littoral counties of SCS will be a reality if and when we feel threatened which we recently did. China going in for a war maybe not now but at a later point in time is not very remote and then thier millitary power will make sure a disproportionate response cannot be off the table and that is what im uncomfortable about.

The insult we have felt- a violation of our Mother India- should not go unheeded. It is clear we need to align with Japan, and possibly, America.

China made Pakistan a nuclear power... They are aiding Pakistan in ALL possible ways against India by teething Pakistan with all weapons on loan. It is stupid to be too soft... Were the Chinese were too afraid in arming Pakistan against India?

If India is making an alliance with US and Japan, It should make sure that it gets advanced Defence equipments.... India should get help... It should NOT be the case that they should say NO to our requests.
