What's new

Japan has been in line for more than 20 years

China does not have 'clean human rights record' as you put it just check Amnesty or UN human rights watch.

Like I said : Back then "Human Rights record" was not a measuring stick.

India has popular support in Africa and NAM as it speaks for the developing world on trade and climate change issues in the G20. Now UK, France, Russia and US have all backed India to be part of the SC they are all P5 members.

Africa ??? Africa has no influence in the world.

Im not talking about back then im speaking of the present sense in regards to China's Human rights record.

Im not sure if you know how the UN works, let me give you a little lesson, all the member states have a vote which they use to decide who they want elected in the UN SC similar say to an olympic bid. So when the UN is finally restructed all these small island nations and african states each have a vote they can cast if they want Japan, India, Brazil etc

India has been elected to a key committee that controls the purse strings of the United Nations, which has an annual budget of nearly $ 22 billion.

In this vote India got the highest number of 164 votes out of a total of 570, which according to Hardeep Singh Puri, India's envoy to the UN, is the highest number of votes received by a candidate.

Besides India, candidates from China, Japan and Pakistan all stood for the elections for the Asian region.

This should tell you every vote counts and India has more friends in NAM and Africa.

. . .
Read what i wrote, im saying every vote counts!! even small islands or african nations who you said have no influence.

They are not the one calling the shot since only the P5 have the power to enlarge the Permanent U.N. body to allow room for new members.

When the UN is finally reformed as to who will get a place in the SC or get the veto, UN members will cast a vote in the democratic sense to decide their choice of candidate but I feel one african country like South Africa should also be a part of the SC considering most UN peace keepers are in Africa.
