Japan goes ever Deeper into Southeast Asia

It's meaningless to say who's pro- what for me. They are all trouble makers.

I admire Thailand; the nation and the people. I just hope that they will effect measures to prevent military generals from declaring coups in the future. I don't like how these yellow shirt fanatics use the King Bumipon as pretext to seize power from a democratically elected and popular government.

Its bad for business.

PS. the 2 former Prime Ministers of Thailand ; Thaksin Shinawatra and his sister Yingluck Shinawatra are Chinese-Thai.

.
Military generals are supported by the Thai King.
The king is balancing between the military force, the grass root, middle class and rich class.
The democratically elected Ministers are represent of rich class, using money to please grass root, causing anger of middle class...
In countries where society can be divided into different classes, the democracy usually does not work...

Thailand pro-China because it need China`s economy, tourist, support..
So no matter which side takes power, the policy and relationship will not change..
And you can see, no matter how both sides fight, the tourist is not harmed at all
Both side realize the importance of tourist to Thai economy...
It is its internal issue, that different society class that fight each other..

You understand that Thaksin and Yingluck were very pro-China leaders right? And the current Military Government is also pro-China, right? Btw, the Americans are deploring the current government because its not 'democratically' elected. I actually am in the position that the cause of this situation in Thailand is not foreign based, but domestic. The yellow shirts, which are pro monarchy , pro-conservancy fear the rising power and influence of the red shirts , who represent pro-democracy, pro-modernity, pro-transparency, and support greater control of military influences and actions.

Thailand is unique case, and you have to understand its history to really appreciate this situation.

.
But Thailand politics is very unstable. The democracy is ruining your country.

If you see yellow shirts vs red shirts (I am red shirt supporter needless to say), and say that this is unstable and ruining the country, I would say that this is not the case. The stability or instability is not because election. Then what exactly the stability vary as?

Oh. Man I'm afraid of JAIL. Cannot

Do you see Ladyboy? They looks like girls but they are actually boy. Thailand is exactly that. Thailand looks like democracy but actually she is .........

Senior defense officials from Japan and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations agreed Tuesday to strengthen cooperation on maritime security as they met in the city of Yokohama near Tokyo to promote freedom of navigation at sea.

The officials at the vice ministerial level shared the view that Japan and ASEAN need to pursue defense technology cooperation, according to a statement issued after the meeting of the sixth Japan-ASEAN Defense Vice-Ministerial Forum.

Japan has been trying to bolster security ties with ASEAN amid China's assertiveness in the East and South China seas. Some ASEAN member states, such as Vietnam and the Philippines, are embroiled in territorial disputes with China.

Potential areas of coordinated action include the sharing of information and rules related to maritime affairs, defense exercises, disaster relief and antipiracy measures.

In his message read at the forum, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe stressed the importance of resolving disputes in a peaceful manner and observing the rule of law. Abe also called Japan and the 10-member regional bloc "natural partners in the sea of Asia."

At the gathering, Akira Sato, senior vice defense minister, said there had been unilateral attempts to change the status quo by force and intimidation, without naming any country, making his case for further coordination among the participating nations.

The officials also discussed the importance of defense talks among ASEAN and its eight partners such as the United States and China, according to the statement.

PH, Japan expand currency swap agreement

MANILA, Philippines–The expansion of the Philippines’ new bilateral currency swap deal with Japan would stabilize financial markets and contribute to protecting both economies during times of distress.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) announced the expansion of the Philippines’ currency swap agreement with Japan, under which both nations committed to provide foreign currencies to each other in times of need.

The deal was signed between the BSP and the Bank of Japan.

“Authorities in Japan and the Philippines hope that the strengthened bilateral financial cooperation will contribute to the stability of financial markets,” the BSP said in a statement.

Likewise, the deal would also “further develop growing economic and trade ties between the two countries.”

This comes at the heels of the recent approval to double the size of the Chiang Mai Initiative Multilateralization (CMIM)—a similar deal that involves all 10 member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean), and their three richer neighbors China, Japan, and South Korea.

Under currency swap deals, participating countries agree to sell foreign currencies to each other. This is needed to avert or address a so-called Balance of Payments (BOP) crisis, which is the depletion of an economy’s supply of foreign exchange liquidity that a country needs to do business with the rest of the world.

Without such agreements, countries are often forced to either dip into their foreign exchange reserves or buy dollars from international markets, which leads to the depreciation of their local currencies.

Weaker currencies mean more expensive imports. Paying for foreign obligations also becomes more expensive.

The new deal with Japan doubles the size of a previous currency swap agreement to $12 billion, in favor of the Philippines. Japan can swap up to 500 million US dollars with the Philippines.

Aside from the crisis resolution facility, this arrangement also introduces a new feature in the form of a crisis prevention scheme to address potential liquidity needs.

BSP Deputy Governor Diwa C. Guinigundo said this new provision would help avert potential crises.

“If you expect a reversal of capital flows and experience a severe pressure on BOP, you can apply for this,” Guinigundo said.

Therefore, Thai ethnicity is rather a question of cultural identity than of genetic origin.[23] The biggest and most influential group are Thais of Chinese origin. The share of Thais who are of full or partly Chinese descent is at about 40 percent.[24]
