What's new

Japan GDP contracted 7.1%

The Germans pay higher taxes because they enjoy the finest social benefits and state-funded retirement package in the world, while the same can't be said about Japan where healthcare, for example,is not only not free but damn expensive,:D

An average German worker is also paid much more than his or her Japanese counterpart. For example, a German school teacher earns 6000 USD a month or more. The same Japanese earns a lot less.

The Japanese goverment is the most indeted government in the so-called developed world, a burden it can no longer shoulder without resorting to increasing taxes of all forms and manners, thereby suffocating the economy which has been in the doldrums for the past 25 years or so.
japan can learn one or two lessons from germany. for example:

- immigration: 10-15 years ago, germany was more or less a closed society. now, the immigration reaches nearly 500,000 person a year. everyone benefits from migrated qualified foreigners.
- reforms in labor and social systems: not long ago, germany was suffering high unemployment, high budget deficit, shrinking competitiveness. after the radical reform some 10 years ago, look at germany now. it is a undisputed economic powerhouse of europe. now the sick man of europe is France.

But you are Chinese, come from a country, the 孝 culture origined,so you shouldn't suggested such things
Your parents give birth to you and take care you until you can afford yourself, their 恩情 for you is higher than sky, deeper than sea,you can't see them as burden

Sorry but I choose who I want to be. And I don't claim to speak on behalf of any culture or anyone other than myself. I don't even agree with Confucianism much. If anything, I like Romanticism more. If you don't like that, too bad. Where is your hometown? maybe I'll go there to teach Romanticism in the future.

And read my posts again. I've never said anything about killing the elderly. It's all about the elderly sacrificing themselves for the sake of their children and grandchildren, which I find very very noble.

I'll predict that these kind of events will happen again one day in Japan. It was a tradition for some Japanese community in the past. No reason why it can never happen again.

nihonjin thought I was trolling because perhaps some elderly were forced to leave their household by their children in the past. He thought I bought up these story to shame the Japanese.

But the truth is some elderly can be willing to do it out of their free choice even if their children don't want them too. It is just another example of parent's 恩情 for their children. They are sacrificing themselves for their children and descendents, not getting killed or murdered. I predict this will happen again in Japan, mark my word.

Maybe it won't happen in S Korea or China, but my sixth sense see it happening in Japan one day. This is one way the aging problem will be solved in Japan.

Ouch! 7.2% contraction thats gona hurt.no wonder there has been a few projection on Japanese economy that is said to fall below $5trillion mark ,perhaps.

According to IMF and world bank, the data of 2013 already showed that Japan has fallen to 4.9 (2012 UN data over 5.9), if the data is true that would be the biggest fall among all the nations, on contrary china has risen almost as much as Japan has fallen. If it continue like this Japan might even lose the title of third largest economy in 3-4 years to Germany.

On other news, our export is historically high again but that is bad news because we have a huge surplus. LOL

This is indeed worrying. its true Japan needs to review it policies and adapt more to current world trends as some of their electronics have fallen behind some of its east asian rivals.

However, Japan is already a rich/wealthy/developed country, as such its hard for it to grow as fast as other emerging countries who are still relatively poor/low GDP per capital like India,China, turkey,Brazil, Indonesia etc.
As leveraged buyout once said here, to get rich is difficult, but once you are rich/wealthy, its difficult to be poor. Even so, the recent years has been better for Japan since their new prime minister took office, before the growth was always negative, now at least its more positive, though still low, but still its better than before and hopefully things will improve .

So Chinese here shouldn't be rejoicing about Japans demise/slow down, since it will take decades for China to ever reach Japans current living standards(if they ever do at all).

They are not even superior man..............not anymore.
Not in anything now.

South korea is the new japan now

Playstation,,,cameras and sony motion pictures are the sole saving grace for sony.
But profit margins are too less to save sony for a long time.

They have 4-5 years max to reform or go the sharp way....................BANKRUPT

I'll say it again, it's because of the ageing population. Wasn't there a discussion before about how most Japanese company bosses and senior managers nowadays are really old? it's hard for companies to reform if their senior managers are conservative and out of touch with younger generation consumers.

Having young managers mean that they are more creative and could understand younger consumer.

Look at emerging companies. Xiaomi's founder and managers are relatively young.

Samsung has lots of young managers. Look at their Korean product manager who presented the note 4. He was young and could pass as the son of the Sony managers who presented on that same day.

You know the company Fiio that produce amps and music players? It was started by young chinese enthusiasts who are passionate audiophile. That's why they could understand the demand of consumers and offer products that people want.

Sony tried to copy by offering a very expensive portable amp that no one was interested in.

That's the problem with Japanese companies that have old bosses and managers. They are unflexible and out of touch with the younger consumers. That's why they make decisions that no one really understands. It is hard to reform these kind of company.

And it's not just about consumer electronic company. Last time I read, their PM still have a hard time telling companies to keep employing female employees instead of considering them as lifetime housewives once they have kids.

Am planning on getting fiio x5,,,,got bored of lowly clip+:p:

Japan has certainly limited itself with restriction on Russia , it could have done alot of trade with Russia or even with North Korea if the ties were improved.

Sometimes its best to let old problems die out for Trade and Economy

I did hear that Japan has a HUGE debt in Trillions

Even with Modest gains , the total Debt is very very high.

They do work hard but cost of food is high in Japan as well

Think about it how many Sony PlayStation would have been sold in Russia ? A lot
How many Sony Playstations would have been sold in China ? A Alot

Nice Nice!! I wish I have money to get X5.

Now compare X5 to the new Sony A17. They both have similar price but the X5 made the A17 looks like a toy. :D

X5 have dual SD ports and Coax and digital output. Seems very simple, but only young audiophile enthusiast product managers know why these are important. sony doesn't know this, or somehow fail to deliver this. Old managers I tell you.

The new feature of a17 is a sanyo capacitor,,,some popsas or something which sony claims will improve sound.
Plus this is the first time in the history of walkmans that its having a micro sd card slot.

But the power rated at 10 mw+10 mw is far too low,,,,x5 has dedicated amps and should sound much better.
But a17 is a sexy beast no doubt
