The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences presented an Honorary Award to Chinese actor Jackie Chan on Saturday, making him the first Chinese person to receive such a honor.
The Chinese actor and martial arts star won the little gold statuette for his decades of work in film.
Upon receiving the award, he made a short and exuberant speech. Chen said he saw an Oscar trophy at Sylvester Stallone's house years ago and knew he wanted one of his own. Now, at 50 years old, 200 films and many broken bones later, he had one.
In his movies, Jackie Chan's characters are famous for acrobatic fighting, comic timing, use of improvised weapons and innovative stunts, which the actor typically performs himself.
The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, hosts of the annual ceremony, also bestowed honorary Oscars on British film editor Anne V. Coates, casting director Lynn Stalmaster and prolific documentarian Frederick Wiseman.
