to get u right ..... sati system was abolished during the british rule and it was a hindu raja ram mohan roy who spent his life against this system .... at the end his hard work paid.... anyways i accept that it was a wrong system and it died gradually.... our society has changed by accepting the wrongs in our society and religion..... but its hard to make someone understand who does not accepts the mistakes.

To those Pakistan jumping on the prospect of Sati, the situation of women isn't necessary better in our "Islamic Republic of Pakistan". Instead of finding faults with others, its better to look into one own collar. Despite years of Muslim rule, they failed to end evil "hindu" practice of Sati is an open testimony to the caliber of Muslim ruler we love to praise as our role models.

and then comes the question why isnt sati practiced in the rape capitals of the world like dehli and mumbai if indians care so much for the honour? why are they rape capitals in the first place if you guys are so righteous

We wiped out sati completely from India.And unlike you we don't call ourselves righteous and we certainly didn't implement Hudood Ordinance to help rapists escape from prosecution by accusing women of adultery.

A very well written article and an epitome of my own thoughts.

Pakistani history needs to be revised and we don't need to sing praises of invaders who only came to expand their own empires and economies. The core of our identity crisis lies in our endless pursuit to be identified as "Muslim ummah" which is nothing but a mere mirage. A gora friend of mine has very low opinion of Pakistanis...he says instead of blaming British for colonialism, the people mentally aspire to be enslaved and the British were just wave of another rulers in the region..sort of sounds true to me!

Regarding Sati and burning women practice, It was very old practice which was stopped centuries ago.


Europe and West are advanced today because of Renaissance. Renaissance is the best thing happened to this world, It bridged the gap between a Noble and a Commoner and also brought the idea of scientific approach to the society.

Regarding treatment of dalits in subcontinent, India missed the chance of its own renaissance because of Islamic Invasions and instability and so those evil practices are continued and were gradually removed in recent times.

India should have its own renaissance in order to understand its ancestors, culture and its ancient scientific achievement. India needs to set the history of ancient India right , which seems to be distorted

Only uneducated families in India used to believe in Sati and this was prominent in rural part of India. Modern day India is far ahead of such rituals and no one supports these kind of crap.
With literacy rate of India going up (currently around 75%), i am sure rural population will also understand how horrific those rituals were.
