It's official: US overtakes all to become India's largest defence supplier

F35 is on offer as well. Only the F-22 is off the table.

If i am not wrong F-35 was only on offer if India would have selected US F-16 or 18 for the MRCA role. F-35 was added to sweeten the deal.

Now that you guys have gone with the French, i wonder if the offer is still on for F-35?

They offered it separately as well - primarily they were/are hoping we would buy the Naval version for our Carriers and progressively replace the naval Jags with them.

I think this was offered during Hiliary's visit right?

LM replied to an IN RFI for naval carrier fighters, offering F35B's and C's, however there was never an official approval of the sale to India. In fact IN has denied to want F35s in general, but the problem remains the laws and restrictions that comes with US weapons and techs. Restrictions which we don't have to follow, since we have plenty of options and that makes it so difficult for the US to gain more on the Indian market. The opening article is faking the reality, by showing the costs only. For the huge ammount we paid (more than $7 billions) for C130, C17 and P8Is we ordered only 34 x aircrafts, none of them in licence production deals, none of them with important ToT or industrial benefits. In fact all major deals will go to Russian, European or Israelis, be it MMRCA, AWACS, most tank and vehicle deals...

I didn't know that. Any link? I know in the long run, it won't be an issue. But didn't know it was already on the table
F-35 was offered to the Indian Navy Boeing also gave presentations to both IAF and Navy regarding this. They also had clearance from US government regarding possible offer of F-35 to India. This during the time P-8I contract was being signed.

PS: if emotes show up its not mine it was from some one else's quote, and they are a pain to delete when posting from phone.

I am positive that getting clearance for -35 for India won't be an issue as you have access to all other types of weaponry anyways. Plus, the -35 is a multinational / partner project also so it should be fine. I think I somehow missed the story as to when these were offered.
Will India consider -35's knowing that they are building their own PakFa?

The US has so far refused to sell any high end offensive hardware like fighter jets to India. Keep in mind American prices are several times as high as Russian prices. Nominally, the US may be the biggest defense seller to India, but in terms of quantity Russia tops the US.
when you take life-time maintenance cost into account, that would not be in the case

Russian stuff were good for some parts, but not anymore````the most expensive kits would be Europeans not the American's

Only the Indian Navy is interested in the naval version of the F-35 that can VTOL for the IAC-II, and III. Otherwise the IAF hasn't shown much interest towards the project.
