What's new

It's GE F-414 for LCA Mk-II; EJ-200 loses the race in photo finish

Previously the Dry thrust was 65KN for 414. with 20% increase in thrust it should be around 75KN....should be enough to make LCA super cruise in atleast clean configuration...

Thank you so much.. one more question is 20% increase proposed or it is implemented already??

u r out of ur mind..
are u smoking any ganja or weed..
or do u have any brains..
why do u think india is insisting US to open a plant in india to manufacture critical parts of F-18 in india,
in future if they even think of applying sanction on india they have to think that there's already a plant in india, and any sanctions on F-18 won't work
please use ur brain..
u may feel as ur a slave of US..
but 1.18 billion indians are not slave of anyone..
got that
AND IF U FEEL UR A SLAVE OF ANYONE,THEN UR NOT A REAL HINDUSTHANI,JUST GET OUT OF INDIA

Your patriotism deserve appreciation , Bravo !

but you are dealing with the devil it self, have your forgotten the east India company ?

As for pressing Americans to open up a factory, well the local saying is that the cat will teach every thing to the lion except climbing the tree.

In the last 5 years, the americans have been able to

1. by pass India russia love, and win the MMRCA
2. Get the engine contract
3. Get the Nuclear power contacts; and more to come
4. Get the renewable energy contracts
5. turn India into a political proxy, which will have impact on her energy acquisitions in future.

So you be the judge.

As I said, you are dealing with the devil itself,

HAL supply lot of parts for fa-18 super hornet.

the door even the cockpit stuff.

even indian air force pilot wants to get their hand on super cool american machine. which will give them edge on currently better paksitani hardware. i.e f-16.

there is no doubt - fa-18 super hornet was always the first choice, and it will come as a surprise but india will get its hand on growler for sure.

this fighter had a close shave with euro fighter , but indian navy needs made it but obvious which one to go for.

I too like 18G :victory: a unique one :taz: ... instead of E/F better to go for 18G as we already have very good beast in our inventory... and this will be different than others...

But sirjee you are just looking at one side of the coin we are still dealing with our Russia on the other side..
PAK FA,
Aircraft carrier
More MIGs and MKI
T90
Nerpa
Brahmos
MTA and lot more others...

Nuclear deals
energy deals
are also on progress....

Infact we have a Russian hand for every US hand... so with others

We are not doing the same mistake as you did... we are very calculative and as i said lets give a try with US... if success then better if it fails we will be able to still sail...

And further i have pardoned that guy for his comments on me for slavery :D because he is more patriotic than to see some reality of our babus... To say patriotism has blinded his eye :D :agree:

How GE's Tejas MK-II Win Affects The MMRCA. Or Doesn't.

4-776116.jpg

In a little over two months from now, the Indian Ministry of Defence will approve the Indian Air Force's field trial evaluation report and begin commercial negotiations with what the IAF hopes will be a downselected list of vendors. Remember, the IAF has not explicitly indicated a downselect, leaving it to the MoD to understand this from the level of compliance index.

Now, there's an overwhelming sense that India's selection of the GE F414 engine makes things much, much clearer about the MMRCA competition, and narrows things down considerably. For clarity's sake, variants of the F414 power the Boeing F/A-18 IN Super Hornet and the next generation Saab Gripen IN, while the Eurojet EJ200 -- which lost to GE in the Tejas MK-II competition -- powers the Eurofighter Typhoon.

The logic was always compelling. A dedicated licensed engine production line in the country for the Tejas MK-II would provide robust economy of scale advantages and funnel down the contenders in the MMRCA. That's how it probably should happen, but will it? Another matter altogether. Some scenarios:

SCENARIO 1: At least six IAF officers I spoke to suggested that it would be wrong to connect the Tejas MK-II and the MMRCA on too many levels. One of them suggested that the two deals were mutually exclusive, with a sharp line dividing the two -- in other words, the decision on one had no way of influencing the other. Therefore, in this scenario, the GE F414 selection provides no tangible advantages, going forward in the MMRCA, to the F/A-18 and Gripen NG, even though those advantages would normally shout loud. When I asked an Air Marshal, formerly at Eastern Air Command HQ, how this could be justified -- considering how it goes headlong against the economies of scale notion -- he said, "You must understand that each deal is a leverage in itself. The government can choose to draw connections and give the country the most effective deal. Or it could keep everything separate and leave all options open for maximum leverage. In my understanding, the government would not hand GE an automatic victory in the MMRCA as a default result of the Tejas MK-II selection. That is not how things happen in India." The other crucial point here is: if the GE victory wasn't politically premeditated, then there exists no procedural route for the Tejas MK-II engine selection to be taken into account in a potential MMRCA downselect. In other words, if the MMRCA is sticking unflinchingly to the RFP (as the Indian Defence Minister recently stated in Washington, and reiterated yesterday by Air Marshal NAK Browne, the IAF's Western Command chief), then GE's win would/could have no direct bearing on the MMRCA downselect simply because there is no official route for it to do so. The last critical point: the F414 engine that will be built in India under tech-transfer, will be a modified engine for the Tejas. If an F414-powered airplane happens to be selected in the MMRCA, then it is likely that there will be two lines, or a fork in the main line.

SCENARIO 2: The opposite scenario. Here, the government decides that a dedicated GE F414 engine line in the country means it makes sense to narrow down the selection based on the economies of engine scale logic. In other words, you have the Gripen going against the Super Hornet in the MMRCA finals.

SUB-SCENARIO 2 (a) But there are important points to remember here to: two extravagantly different aircraft, same engine in different configurations. The US government would obviously support the F/A-18, and GE would clearly prefer the F/A-18, since it's American and a twin-engine platform, so it means double the number of engines sold by GE as compared to the number it would sell if India chose the Gripen. In this scenario, the GE F414 economies of scale and political considerations would push the F/A-18 to the top of the list.

SUB-SCENARIO 2 (b) In this scenario, the government decides it already has economies of scale, and pushes the Gripen forward as a perceived compromise: the cheaper aircraft, with American engine and weapons. The US cannot exercise export licensing controls on the Gripen's GE engine since each vendor had to submit a signed affidavit before field trials that all systems listed in their bid documents were available, and needed no further approvals from any government. Remember, the IAF has said it won't choose a twin-engine aircraft in the MMRCA, if a single-engine aircraft can "do the job", i.e, is satisfactorily compliant on all 643 test points that each of the six airplanes were tested for during the field evaluation trials (FETs). But now it's up to the MoD.

SCENARIO 3: In this scenario, the GE victory in the Tejas MK-II engine competition, has a reverse effect on the MMRCA, and pushes the Eurofighter Typhoon, Rafale and F-16 (the MiG-35 is all but officially confirmed to be out) to the top of the pile, since alternate engines provide their own leverage. Scenarios 2 & 3 are of course assuming the government won't look at the Tejas MK-II and the MMRCA as "two watertight compartments" as an officer put it.

I am fan of Indian diplomacy, and I would be interested to see it work here.

However it is early days for the Indian American honeymoon.

As I said, you are dealing with the devil, you will see how they keep growing their roots.

they will hang the out sourcing legislation as a threat always.

It is a part of their system to OWN ! and enslave.

Well india know's how to deal with devil...
We have both the Power blocs of this world now..
and we know which power bloc is devil..
and showed them their pressure wont won't work on us,EX:-sanctions on Iran was not applied by india..
may be the world doesn't know how to deal with americans, but surely we know..
Ex:-the nation which helped a lot to it's Non-nato ally in 1971 to fight against india,is now offering Top shelf arms, but we won't accept so easily...:azn:

Pre-Independence pakistan was also part of india which was ruled by the east india company.................
Pakistan was an allay of US during Cold war era that is till post 9/11........... until us invasion of Afghan since Most of the Muslim leaders in pakistan oppose the us now they have become the devil......... this is called cold blooded opportunist ditch ur friend for the want of personal gain..............

More over Haven't u seen the Indian National Emblem the saranath.... the lion is already on the pillar pretty much even if the cat dose not teach us how to climb the tree our lion knows how to do so..............:bunny::usflag:

Since the main role that has been envisioned for LCA is of interceptors and since this would not be our main line fighter so sanctions at time Indo-Pak Spat should not so much damaging. But LCA's low RCS figures could work wonders for IAF at the time of combat. Cope India - 2004 is a good proof.

If Typhoon or say Rafale wins, will we still get full Tech transfer for their respective engines. And if we get Tot for engines through MMRCA then we need not worry so much about sanctions.

you would not see the US turning india into its proxy or something coz they know that Indians will always have friendly relations with the Russians and they will lose if they try to subjugate India because India will once again tilt the Russian side .

as for the nuke deals with US . as far as i know no US company as of now has any contract India and will not till we have the nuclear liabliaty act in place since they are wary of the act, meanwhile the Russians ,French and other countries already have contracts since they do not worry about the act.

as of now the situation for nuke business with America is like-accept the liablities act and set shop in India . we are giving them the buisness but it is in their hands if they are willing to accept the liablities or not....
