Italian man hunts blue sheep in Hunza

Tu baat ye hay bhai kay sub say bara rupaya

Yes, It shouldn't be killed (but this old sheep would have eventually killed by snow leopard as per basic survival for fittest law of wild life) , Other good source of earning money for Gilgit-Baltistan is tourism which is currently stalled because of WoT.
Good for nothing overrated murree steals local tourists of Ajk and Gilgit Baltistan

He said that the blue sheep was the Pakistan’s longest and the world’s second longest animal.
What the hell? Its horns or the sheep itself?

These hunting permits (unlike permits for Houbara bustard) are given with strict conditions and hunting is done under watch of authorities, hunter are allowed to hunt the only animal which authorities approved (in other words the ones who have passed most part of their productive life), So, Hunting of few of them once in a years doesn't make any impact but funds raised from these permits are used on wild life and welfare of people. So, it's not a bad thing.
All that is fine but Why the need to hunt? Is Italy running out of meat? And mroe like HOW DARE they allow hunting?

The reasons for a wildlife conservatory is to protect animals and hunters out ...

Wildlife conservation is the practice of protecting wild plant and animal species and their habitats. Among the goals of wildlife conservation are to ensure that nature will be around for future generations to enjoy and to recognize the importance of wildlife and wilderness lands to humans. Many nations have government agencies dedicated to wildlife conservation, which help to implement policies designed to protect wildlife. Numerous independent non-profit organizations also promote various wildlife conservation causes.

KVO’s wildlife conservatory

This part is interesting though:

Mr Baig said that hunter was accompanied by his local guide, Mahboob Ali, local community members and officials of GB wildlife department to ensure that the hunt was carried out according to the rules. “The hunter fired a single gunshot at the blue sheep from a distance of 275 meters as was allowed under the law.”

According to rules, only one shot at the animal is allowed, and the second attempt would render the permit invalid.

This part is incredibly stupid:

home to rare species, including the Marco-Polo sheep, ibex, markhor, urial, blue sheep, lynx, snow leopard, brown and black bears, wolf, fox, marmote, chakor and Ram chakor.
Its like ok we have all the rare species in 1 area now lets push them to extinction!

The official said that Gilgit-Baltistan wildlife management board had auctioned in December last year 70 hunting permits for trophy hunting programme for 2014-15, which included 12 permits for markhors, 50 for ibex and eight for blue sheep, respectively.

Bibi this hunting is not for meat.

As Govt. don't provide sufficient funds to maintain wildlife department so there are two option,
1. They downsize (already non-sufficient) the department as per funds available which will eventually leads to situation where you will not be having enough manpower to secure the conservatory and keep the hunter and thieves out, and that will make these species go instinct.

2. Sacrifice few animals which have passed their productive life (and eventually will die naturally, by accidents as one have to fit to survive in mountains, or fall pray to others like snow leopards, foxes as old chaps can't run that fast).

So, in current circumstances option 2 is far better unless we Pakistan hit some jackpot and becomes a rich country to afford ideal wildlife department.

As i said earlier, we love to criticize just or sake of criticizing without bothering to learn details and doing some reality checks. You can have idea about how much serious officials they have (Bad apples exist in every society but far less in GB as compare to rest of Pak) that they didn't let proper road/passage for easy access to fairy meadows, when i gave suggestion to an official that they can attract more people by making the area easy to reach, his answer was that we will not develop easy access, because the areas is for people who genuinely love nature and are ready to bear hardships to reach here not for every tom, d!ck and harry to come and pollute/destroy it. Don't know the current situation though that they are still committed to their stance or not.

Italian hunter Boieti Gian Carlo along with his prized catch. — Dawn
GILGIT: An Italian man has hunted a blue sheep with 32-inch-long horns in the wildlife conservatory at Gojal valley of Hunza-Nagar district near the Pak-China border.

Boieti Gian Carlo hunted the sheep in Khunjrab Village Organisation’s (KVO’s) wildlife conservatory at Sukhterabad Nullah, some 20 kilometers from Pak-China border on Sunday, the organisation’s secretary information Rahimullah Baig told Dawn on Tuesday.

He said that the blue sheep was the Pakistan’s longest and the world’s second longest animal.

He said the Italian hunter had secured hunting permit paying 8,000 US dollars to the Gilgit-Baltistan wildlife department.

Blue sheep is a rare species, found only in Nepal and Pakistan.

He said that the foreign hunter spent three days in KVO’s wildlife conservatory looking for the blue sheep.

The KVO official said 80 per cent of the income from the sale of hunting permits went to the local community to be spent on development of wildlife in their respective areas. Twenty per cent of the amount would go to the government exchequer, he explained.

In the KVO wildlife reserve live 30 snow leopards and other wildlife species.

Ghulam Mohammad, conservator at GB parks and wildlife department, said that Gilgit-Baltistan was home to rare species, including the Marco-Polo sheep, ibex, markhor, urial, blue sheep, lynx, snow leopard, brown and black bears, wolf, fox, marmote, chakor and Ram chakor.

The hunting season begins in November and ends in April.

Ghulam Mohammad said the trophy hunting quota was created on the basis of annual surveys conducted by the wildlife experts.

He said that the wildlife department issued hunting permits for only the aged animals.

personally i think this is a stupid thing our government is allowing,an animal which is found only in Pakistan and Nepal is being hunted for 8,000 USD ,what? This is just unacceptable .
Hunting permits are issued for even Markhor ( Snake Eater in Persian ), Our National Animal and an Endangered Species to highest bidders for the older animal which serve no more to the conservation, 5 permits are issued if I'm right. And even if that money is used for conservation, I think it's still not a good thing because the nature is simply priceless. I don't approve hunting just for fun of any Wild Animal and govt needs to stop bullying and do some actual work. But why should we bother to save animals for a country where you can rent a gun for $50, kill a human and get away with it, and give a little more to someone to do it for you. Now $8,000 sounds a lot for a sheep taking that in account :(

Hunting laws need to be reformed, and when I saw reformed, I mean a complete ban on hunting rare or endangered species. No hunting permits, and severe punishment.

So, in current circumstances option 2 is far better unless we Pakistan hit some jackpot and becomes a rich country to afford ideal wildlife department.
Well I suggest the jackpot would be this quote
Sacrifice few animals
when we sacrifice few politicians and take over their assets :woot:

If this is true than

Only old animal is allowed to hunt ,they are going to die anyway .its beautiful animal very healthy and nice trophy to have .
This hunt is worth every penny .

Hunting for sport is the lowest form of human behavior. I am against it. Culling pest like animals is one thing but to go out of your way to hunt rare species cannot be justified. And we all know how these things work in Pakistan, the money won't go in any welfare of the wildlife, only a select few corrupt people.

In USA , Govt allow to hunt Gator and other animal in specific season.
In Australia Govt allow to hunt Kangaroo in specific time..

I don't see anything wrong in this hunting... And more over when 8,00,000 PKR is involved...
