Libya is the problem...Libya is our hood...our colony and Gaddafi was our muppet there. ENI had exlclusive deals there...since Libya went down the toilet ENi had a lot of pressure because losing investments. We believed that similar fields could be near egypt. Thats why Renzi supported al Sis from day one. And it paid out. Those fields can replace our libyan fields.

Libya's history spans millenniums. Libya was an Italian colony from 1911 until 1947. Using that logic Arabs, Libyans included, can claim Sicily, parts of Southern Italy and much of Southern Europe as they ruled it for centuries, in the case of Portugal and Spain almost for 800 years.

Those regions of the world (Southern Europe + the nearby Arab world - basically the Mediterranean basin and the hinterlands + Western Asia) have had millennium old relations since the first humans migrated to Europe from the nearby Near East or since the Neolithic period over 10.000 years ago when farming and the wheel was spread to Europe from what is today the Arab world (Near East).

Those regions of the world should cooperate closely and as equals. For the beneficial good of the region. As an person of Arab and European descent this is something I see as fundamental.

Colonialism has ended though for both parties.

Everything is easier when there is mutually beneficial cooperation. This will be the future in an increasingly globalized world based on science. Borders won't move though nor can history be erased.

There are no friendships when trade is involved. That's historically a falsehood and I even recall you stating the opposite before on PDF. I would probably be able to find the posts if I bothered.

In any case Egypt is an independent nation well capable of defending its interests.
