What's new

IT sector attracts $2.253bn in 2yrs

speaking of numbers.....lets see....Pakistan population 189 million.....and Indian telecom subscribers 600 Million plus.......so even after reaching saturation...Pakistan total telecom market will be less than 30 percent of Indian telecom active user base...and what about growth sir....Indian telecom sector adds Millions subscribers per quater....even with 50 pct penetration...its growth that companies are looking for not allready existing user base......speaking of numbers.

'Speaking of numbers', what does that have to do with my post?

Just looking for an opportunity to rant? Do so elsewhere please.

Teledensity in India: Ranking Of States 2009-2010

The urban teledensity of India has been rising consistently for last five years. In 2008 the urban teledensity was 60%, which increased to 85 % in March 2009 and the recent reports shows that India has reached the 100% landmark of urban teledensity, which means the number of mobile in urban area is at par with the population. The main reason behind reaching this landmark is fight of price war between different service providers, which eventually brought the price to that level, which is in reach of everyone living in urban areas.

For those who keen to know about the data of Urban teledensity would be amazed to know that Himachal Pradesh is having the highest urban teledensity of 219% , whereas regions which are considered developed are lagging behind, Kerala is at 2nd place followed by Delhi(3rd) Chennai(4th) and Mumbai(5th).

That refers to urban teledensity, not overall teledensity.

Must be about India V/s pak as most post about it ;-)

The article had one line for comparing the teledensity of India and Pakistan, it was an Indian member that made a false allegation of 'exaggerated figures' and really dragged Indian into the discussion.

Back to topic please.

Well u conveniently cover up the mistake of the article by saying my comment was inaccurate !!:what:

An absolute 13% difference isn't called exaggeration ? well may be for some it mayn't be :cheesy: not for me....
Now if ur argument that march 2009 wasn't that old holds then, sbdy can also say Nov 2008 wasn't that old when teledensity was only 32%.

Point being u compare data at least from same period forget abt applicability or the least mention some rough periods. Why dont u accept that ? as I said even 50% is still less than 63% obviously. As simple as that.

And 2nd reason to my defence, The comparison with India was made Bold, so I felt it was a point meant to be noticed

I rest the argument here.

Point being that the number was not an exaggeration as you suggested, but a valid stat from March 2009.

The basis of comparison itself is wrong, you take data of pakisatan in march 2010 and comparing it with India's data of march 2009....one dont need rocket science to prove this wrong..

you must agree with me that, the data was right but the comparison is wrong and please dont try to justify this kind of stuff.

will you agree with me if i compare IAF of 2010 with PAF of 1970? still i can argue that it is not an exaggeration , but a valid one as of 1970.

All the companies in bold are not Pakistani's companies. They are only branches of multinational companies in Pakistan. Wipro, Infosys, TCS, Bharti, Airtel, etc etc are totally Indian owned companies. You cannot quote them to be part of Pakistan's IT or telecom services. Just like how we cannot quote Virgin Cellular as an Indian company, Please check before you post.

ISLAMABAD: The telecom sector performed well in all its spheres during the past two years as the overall teledensity increased from 58.7 percent to 63.5 percent and total foreign direct investment (FDI) was recorded at $2.253 billion.

Telecom subscribers down by 2.4 million

Saturday, March 13, 2010

KARACHI: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has released telecom subscriber numbers for the month of January 2010. As per the released data, overall subscriber base witnessed a huge net decline of 2.4 million.

Cellular segment witnessed the highest monthly decline in the post-deregulation era with draining of 2.2 million subscribers.

In addition to this, WLL segment also continued to depict a declining trend in its subscriber base for the second consecutive month. Consequently, overall teledensity level of the country squeezed-out by almost 1.6 pps to 61.9 percent from its Dec 2009 level.

I am not covering up anything - the mistake wasn't as great as you were making it out to be. Had you merely stuck to correcting the error there would have been little issue with your comments.

Instead you went on a rant against the Pakistani media and implied that the media deliberately reported incorrect stats to 'show India in a poor light'. The media was merely quoting an individual from the industry, the author did not make the comparison of his own accord.

Now back to the comparison, by the end of the third quarter (March 2009) Pakistan's teledensity was 60.6, compared to India's teledensity of 36.98.

Indias tele-density grows ARPU declines: TRAI - CIOL News Reports

So even with a comparison of the numbers from March the error was not that significant, and your diatribe unnecessary.

There is nothing wrong with the information that was posted - all those companies are operating, investing and employing in Pakistan.

While the question posed may have meant to ask for 100% Pakistan owned companies, that was not automatically clear from the question itself, and so there is no need to get after the poster who provided the information.

Some of you Indians need to be less touchy about things.

The heading talks about the IT sector but the article is totally about Telecom sector. Is that a typo by the journalist?
