Out of interest, not because I know much about Indian politics..., but correct me if I'm wrong, the recent elections in Karnataka for example were surprisingly (at least for me) clear wins for the congress although the opponents tried to influence with Modi in election rallys and advertisements. That again shows that elections won't be won by specific persons, but by parties right?
So no matter how many people like Modi today and how weak the possible candidates of the Congress might look like today in comparison, the key for the election remains which party and which coalitions is the most promising one!

So what makes the Modi supporters here think, that his party and their possible coalition partners would be better for India, without the personal preference for him or any other person? Can somebody tell me what policies these parties stand for and what major changes would come if they were elected?

Similarly, to the MMS / Rahul / Congress supporters, what changes from the current policies and what improvements from the current mistakes and failures (scams, inflation, Maoists) can we expect from the party, without the personal preference for any person?

There was anti incumbency factor against BJP and more so against BSY. BJP already considered it a lost battle, and Modi did not campaign in that state but only addressed one rally. only one. It was not a planned or full scale campaign.

More than being pro Modi I am against Raul gandhi. The reason being he is projected for PM post only because of his birth. He has not held a cabinet position or any position of accountability in govt. where we could analyze of see for our self, his performance. On the other hand senior leaders of Congress who are ostensibly more qualified than Rahul gandhi project him as PM. I wonder why! I wish i was born a scion of gandhi, i would be running this country right now and doing a damn better job than MMS

India loves its image as a happy go lucky land where Muslims go to Teerath Yatra and Hindus wish they could go for Haj. Where there is secularism and modernism, orgies on the streets, and candy rains from the skies.

Anti- incumbency= people vote you out because you've been in office for soooo long that people think things have stagnated and they need new people at the helm. The rest of it is inanity. People voted BJP out because they were lazy, corrupt and inefficient. Whether there was one split or two would never make a difference.

But MMS is not a Gandhi either and that's his problem too, because he might be the PM, but doesn't run the party and that's the crucial point! It doesn't matter what personality, knowledge, or ideas you have, the one that is in control of the party or the coalition is running the game and that's the same all around the world. Even Obama couldn't pass some of his reforms or initiatives, because members of his own party blocked it. Merkel is continuously axing possible contenders in her own party, to remain in control of the party.
And that's the point many people forget when they think about Modi too, because if he can't control his own party or their coalition partners, he won't be able to do what he really wants to do. In that case Rahul might even has an advantage, since his mother won't axe him, or fight against his ideas openly, so he might be able to do more than MMS could in his 2nd term (even if he wanted), but I agree with you that he should prove himself as a minister first and not directly be a PM because of his name.
