Issue of fortune telling in Pakistani society and television

too much programs are going on-air now days about pridiction of the future But as a muslim what i found i put it here. and i find it a very week Eman to belive on things.
I start it with Saying of

Err obviously Islam is not against scientific / financial estimation, however Islam forbids following astrological and other voodoo kind of fortune telling.

Stop pretending to be thick skulled like you didn't understand what "predictions" means here. It would be nice if the usual mob culture stopped fishing for opportunities to take a dig at Islam just to satiate their desires to see it denigrated. We are here to have mature discussions about meaningful issues.

Moreover the discussion is from a Pakistani societal point of view, whether or not we want to turn into a society that believes in mystical and magical explanations instead of facts.

That's true... there are programmes and ads. on Pakistan (related) TV regarding solving peoples problems in weired way and predictions etc.
As far my Islam is concerned, such is not legal.
Prevelance of such beliefs among wider audience hints nothing but level of ignorance about Islam.

Furthermore, as an indication of influence of cable TV on Pakistanis.. some un-educated bunch have started to tie bands on their wrists considering them sort of holy!!! such nonsense belief can be any thing but Islam.

Actually,we know only 42% of Pakistanis has ever been to school, that leaves a huge illiteracy ratio.
The people who are illetraite cannot justify anything, or cannot make what is good and bad.

They believe in what they were told. And fortune tellers mis use this concept.
Fortune tellers want money, and the ones who go to them must be in some kind of problems surely so they are ready to pay.

As for religion, seeking a fortune teller and beeing a fortune teller is a grave sin (shirk).

this is harkat e jahilia..Prophet said as the final hour approaches the jahilia culture will make a return..fortune telling, future prediction, nationalism, racialism, etc etc will become wide spread. May allah save us from fitnah!

I Started this thread for muslims and Islam is not about your Islam and my Islam. and what I quoted in first poted was from Saheh Ahadiths and Quran.

me is happening in this world leave India and Pakistan aside.
and very wast mjority of our people belaive on prediction stars and other ways of predictioins. educated and un-educated both.

and for those who think it is scince or physics and debate it that way. it was not my intention to start it for all. i just wanted to let know muslims at this forum. and for non muslims it is ok but i was talking about muslims.
for Hindu community (I respect their religion) it part of their religion and they can belive on predictions.

Astrology and fortune telling are one of the four things that are explicitly mentioned in the famous aayat that declares their 7urmat, the others including gambling and I don't know the rest.

However our society (our shall I say our cultural islam) flaunts some of these, e.g. 3ilm e jafr and what not, as if they are the highest of the best practices and their practitioners the most deserving of 3aqeedat.

The only Pakistanis I know who dont take "fortune telling" seriously, are my Dad and my Grandad.

When I was In Pakistan, I didnt even meet one person who didnt take "fortune telling" seriously.
