ISRO to build orbiter for NASA :tup:

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has asked the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to build an orbiter that will provide the communication between the soil samples collected from the far side of the moon and the earth, according to ISRO Chairman K. Radhakrishnan.

This joint venture between the ISRO and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, would be part of the Moonrise missions planned by the NASA.

“This project is in the planning phase, alongside India's lunar mission programme centred on Chandrayaan-2,” he said.

The ISRO would provide an orbiting communicator to the NASA for this mission, scheduled for 2016.

Chandrayaan-2 would be put in an orbit around the moon by a Geo-synchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) in 2013 and the project would cost Rs.462 crore, Mr. Radhakrishnan said. It would be a joint mission with Russia: while the spacecraft and the rover would be built by India, the lander would be from Russia.

The two-member committee the Centre had appointed to go into the allocation of the S-band spectrum to private company Devas by ISRO's commercial arm Antrix Corporation had submitted its report. The government would give it to the ISRO, which would act on it, he said.

yes I think its a great news because ISRO still has a long mile to go and cooperation with NASA so closely will only help ISRO learn a lot more. however, it is remarkable that ISRO has created this unique reputation that even NASA is eager and willing to work with ISRO.

. .
Well ISRO's credibility is the most trusted among any indian scientific organisation. I think with NASA's(lots of indians working there!!) guidance and collaboration ISRO will catch up the rest of the big powers in the space race much faster than it can do alone.

So Chandrayan 2 in 2013 then what about manned mission ????

I`m kinda worried about the launch of chandrayaan-2 becaue its on GSLV I really don`t trust that machine if it was PSLV then I would not worry about it

Payload capacity of PSLV is limited . Most recent version is able to lift max 1.5 tonne so not suitable for heavy missions

And dnt worry even first test of PSLV is failure but not we are master of this technology
Just wait and watch

I`ll try but what`s the weight of chandrayaan-2?Because I know ISRO is making a PSLV-HP able to lift a 2 tonne satellite

. .
ISRO has gone global!!!

NASA-ISRO joint mission for moon sample returning is extremely crucial.

NASA can never replace Russians. 2016 is far away and mission profile looks very paranoid. NASA's old problem.
