ISRO & Arms Deals to be Covered Under Jan Lokpal

when we hear about scams in our army, we go bombing complaining blah blah...........and now when they are considering brining military under lokpal, you guys are complaining.....

so many scams in military also........we need to start holding people responsible for their acts/actions....no matter its politician or military........wrong decision costing cost payers money and you have to pay...

i dont think they will include sensitive info under lokpal...

please be calm and let all details come out

Lokpal should be given scrutiny in public military deals,but mot in military secrets or Intelligence issues.

Military should come out of this holier-than-thou approach, everyone should be covered by lokpal whenever there is any complaint about any politician,bureaucrat or militarymen or so.

Suppose in case of sukna scam or adarsh scam, even though lokpal got complaint, it cann't act against our holy generals, lokpal will become a tragedy. So it must also include arms deals as well.

Lokpal will only come into picture when there is complaint of kickbacks in arms deals.

Now what is wrong in that? but yes there should be procedure to keep things secret.


now how it will slow the process of arms procurement? if our army is so clean and clear abt arms deal then they should not bother abt lokpal, it will only come in to picture when it gets complaints.

People here feel that Delay will happen. I guess LOKPAL will only investigate if bribe/commission was involved like bofors. They would not judge the product itself.

Moreover, it can't investigate until deal has been done. This will prevent delays but caution the officials that even though they take bribe today, they will have to go jail tomorrow.

Bribe means when money was transferred illegally through channels, banks on condition that deal must be done. This is clear picture when investigation must be done.

But in another scenario. A product is purchased at higher price with mutual agreement that same product would not be sold to its enemy nation. Now, this case is of pure diplomacy and LOKPAL would not be allowed to check the terms of matter. But, it should have power to check the accounts of officials that no take bribe of 5000 crore just to pass Rafale file to finance ministry.

If we didn't include both this divisions, than I guarantee that all supporting parties (like DMK, Trinmool, etc.) will demand one and only cabinet which is Ministry of Defence. It would not be too long when we will see Karunanidhi himself as Defence Minister.

Probably our next satellite launch site would be named "Kumari Mayawati Launch Vehicle Station"

If were bare Military than ready for another scam in military alike Bofors where our madam's close friend was involved. LOKPAL should be supreme in its way of functioning. Only limit it should have are 1.) Orders of Supreme Court.

And regarding ISRO, we can prevent all future 2G scams since all the transponders are going to be own by ISRO satellites only.

Good move.

Delays have nothing to do with beauracracy. Its more about stubborn attitude of IAF to move faster on their technical requirements. There is a serious lack of enough technically qualified people in IAF and army. They don't even know difference between OS kernels used in AWACS and those in aircrafts. Someone from DRDO had to explain to them that both OS softwares are not compatible and why glueing them requires an establishment of new bridge framework.

Believe me, these armed forces types are dumb for such intense technical stuff. Remember how Indian Army had to hire foreign(Israeli) inspectors for carrying out review of Indian Arjun MBT tanks? That's because Army didn't have a single man who was technically competent enough to review a product like Arjun MBT which involves latest generation engine transmission technologies and digital navigation system frameworks, those not even present in decades old imported russian tanks. And, Army wasn't ready to hire some ex-DRDO expert or any Indian as consultant because Indian Army simply refused to trust Indian brains in this matter.

Arjun MBT lost 6 years because Indian army kept DRDO waiting and waiting and waiting, & wasted billions$ on T-90 which came with faulty gun and night vision systems. And then Antony came and kicked them in the as*hole.

Indian Army has led India into a hell-hole of imports during 40 years of Russian imports era. If Lokpal had been there, India wouldn't be in such a mess with T-90 for which it depends on foreign countries for spare parts.

Someone should file a RTI query on IA, on the cost difference between maintaining T-90(imported spare parts) and Arjun MBT(locally made parts). According to one DRDO source, difference is a nearly $150 million wastage per year!

While remote-sensing has huge utility – including locating aircraft wreckage as in the recent Arunachal Pradesh tragedy – a Comptroller and Auditor General of India ( CAG) report suggests the image-processing techniques are inefficient.

The CAG cites delays in image processing at the National Remote Sensing Centre (Hyderabad) and claims around 90 per cent of images are not utilised. An ISRO wasteland-mapping project has also been delayed for 14 years. ISRO chairman, K Radhakrishnan accepts, “The CAG findings are hundred per cent correct,” which implies an overhaul in IRS processing systems is overdue.

For years, ISRO maintained a pristine image. It delivered a string of glittering successes. It created the satellite network, which is the cornerstone of India’s electronic media and telecom revolution. Recent events have rubbed off some of the sheen. This launch should lift morale, and put the ambitious space exploration programme back on track.
