Ukraine does not have a need for Iron Dome, the country's defense minister said on Saturday, in a sharp break from comments previously made by Kyiv's ambassador to Israel.

In June, Ukrainian Ambassador to Israel Yevgen Korniychuk said that Kyiv wants to purchase Israel’s Iron Dome air defenses system. “We need Israeli assistance... I mean that we need the military-technical support; we need Iron Dome,... which will allow us to save our civilian women and children from the shelling of the Russian missiles in our territory," he said at the time.

On Saturday though, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov told a Forbes summit that Iron Dome would not be suitable for the Ukraine.

"We all know the example of Israel, which protects the sky quite well. We all know the name Iron Dome, but even it does not give 100% protection. In fact I’ve been to Israel and talked to their manufacturers and state enterprises," Reznikov said. "Iron Dome was built [for protection] against slow, low-altitude, low-impact missiles that were basically made in garages. Iron Dome does not protect against cruise and ballistic missiles."

Obviously it doesn't. Iron dome is effective against smaller grade homemade missiles. I doubt it will work against much more advanced and faster Russian missiles.

Yes the new cutting edge technology of Hypersonic missiles are in league of their own. Mach 4 to 5 will barely can be shot down by Mach 2 or 3 air defence systems.

.
Ukraine may have wanted it in the beginning, but Israel is not giving it either.
Iron Dome is medium short and medium range, able to intercept respective missiles and drones. For long ranges Israel has another system, the SkyCeptor

.
Even if Ukraine wanted to buy Iron Dome, who would finance it?

. .
Whole western world is behind Ukraine, they'd finance it
Member states of MBDA would rather sell their own defence system than finance a competitor's system, The US too would rather sell its own systems instead financing a competitor's system.

Iron Dome can intercept everything, cruise missiles to ballistic missiles, the thing is its range against really high speed Iskander missiles isn't the same as its range against Grad/Smerch/Uragan rockets.

I've always said, Iron Dome works for Israel because Israel has a lot of Iron Dome batteries that cover its entire territory, you would need a shit ton of Iron Dome batteries to substantially protect Ukraine, economically unsustainable for for Ukraine and would take a lot of time for Israel to produce.

Iron Dome is Mach 3. It certainly can defend against Mach 4 and 5 targets, only thing that's impacted is effective range of the system.

There are no competitors to the Iron Dome.

All other systems are hundreds of thousands of dollars more expensive per missile with similar flight characteristics.

.
Stating the obvious, Iron dome was created to combat a totally different kind of threat.

.
Obviously, the weapons designed for Hizbullah are not suitable for Russia.

.
Iron dome shoots a very average missile that was made to be as cost-efficient as possible against 1m long explosive cans flying in a parabolic path

The Iron Dome is a open architecture system, this means that it can receive interventions according to the client and his objective.

Ukraine will get air defense system Iris. Made in Germany. Very promising stuff. The system will protect Kiew against Russia terror attack. The bottleneck is the Germany company can only produce one or two systems per year.

You missed my point. I was stating that SAM-manufacturing NATO countries like the US, UK and Italy etc would rather sell their own SAM system instead of financing someone else's SAM system for Ukraine.

Dome can is exactly what you need to shoot down MLRS missiles. One problem though, 1 dome missile = 2 grad reloads with Bulgarian, or Norinco missiles by cost
