I personally think that the CIA had the knowladge of Pak's seceret nuclear programe and they estimated that Pakistan could;nt have never developed a nuclear bomb during the time period of Soviets presence in afghanistan as during that Pak evaded almost all checks and balances and they would eventually wrap up the Pakistani attempts of going nuclear once they dealt with the soviets . But their estimation went wrong and when they realized it that Pakistan was just screwdriver turn away from making a nuke they tried to sabotage the process and ZIA's assasination was part of it but at the end it was revealed to them that Pakistan had attained a nuclear bomb which then resulted in the enforcement of the Preseller amendement halting major aid to the Pakistan...

I didnt say congress is more hardline than BJP. The BJP had some pent up fustrations against Pakistan...due the the 1000 year Moslem rule on hindu Bharat..and they were still clinging on to their absurd dream of akund bharat or hindutva. Thus they hated *******...as you can see what happened in gujrat, moombai and kashmir. Advani was screaming "teeroreezum" and yelling all kinds of absurdities about Pakistan and ******* which were quite amusing to the rest of the world.

But in due time...your Hindu fundamentalists changed their antics and moved towards Peace with Pakistan. I guess they realized that the level of insanity and hatred found on the indian side wasnt found on the Pakistani side. Hence Vajpayee made a sincere effort to push forward peace efforts with Pakistan and i admire his far sightedness and sincererity.Now his kin regurarly visit Lahore for the occasional Party...as does the rest of the indian elite who come across the border with their local wines to mingle with the Rich and the Beautiful Pakistanis. Just take a look at some of the social pages and you'll know what i mean (im going to guess you belong to the not to privelidged class).

Now...the most racist hindu hardliner in Bharat is Advani...and even he has changed his tune more so that he paid a few visits to Pakistan where he was treated very well. On one such visit to Karachi (also his hometown) he was feted and fussed over by almost everyone. Among is many stops was his School (Saint Pauls) where he was overcome by nostagia as well the many famous landmarks of Victorian era Karachi.

So...BJP , made more of an effort for Peace with Pakistan than the Congress which seems to have given RAW an agenda to restart the soviet era operations to destabalize Pakistan. The result of which can only be the restrting of the Kashmir freedom movement and Khalistan.

Both of them are pussies and are more interested in attracting foriegn investment and improving the economy.

The real hawks are the civil service bureaucrats in the defence ministry and the punjabi khatris in the upper echelons of the army.
