Israel's military chief Tuesday warned the Biden administration against rejoining the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, even if it toughens its terms, adding he's ordered his forces to step up preparations for possible offensive action against Iran during the coming year.

The comments by Lt. Gen. Aviv Kohavi came as Israel and Iran both seek to put pressure on U.S. President Joe Biden ahead of his expected announcement on his approach for dealing with the Iranian nuclear program. In Iran, leaders said they would not wait indefinitely for Biden to act.

The 2015 deal put curbs on Iran's nuclear program in exchange for the easing of crippling economic sanctions. Israel strongly opposed the deal, saying it did not include sufficient safeguards to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon. It welcomed the Trump administration's withdrawal from the agreement in 2018.

Biden has said he will seek to revive the deal, with some changes. Antony Blinken, the U.S. president's nominee for the secretary of state, said Biden wants to work with allies on the Iran issue.

In his address to the Institute for National Security Studies, Kohavi said a return to the deal, even with some improvements, "is bad operationally and it is bad strategically.” He said allowing Iran to proceed with a nuclear program would be “an unacceptable threat and will lead to nuclear proliferation across the region.” Iran says its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only.





Kohavi said that given the threat posed by Iran, Israel's military would be prepared to attack on its own if needed.

“I instructed the army to prepare a number of operational plans in addition to the existing ones,” he said. “We are taking care of these plans and will develop them during the coming year. Those who decide on carrying them out, of course, are the political leaders. But these plans have to be on the table."

Just hours before Kohavi spoke against a deal, Iran prodded Biden to rejoin the atomic accord. “The window of opportunity will not be open for long,” said Iran’s Cabinet spokesman Ali Rabiei.

Israeli officials, including Kohavi, say that Iran is in a much weaker position than in 2015 after years of sanctions by the Trump administration. They say that any new deal should eliminate “sunset” provisions that phase out certain limits on Iran's nuclear activities, address Iran's long-range missile program and its military involvement and support for Israel's enemies across the region. Several top Israeli officials also voiced concerns over Biden's policy on Iran and Palestine.

Tensions around Iran have steadily increased. During Trump’s final days as president, Tehran seized a South Korean oil tanker and begun enriching uranium closer to weapons-grade levels, while the U.S. has sent B-52 bombers, the USS Nimitz aircraft carrier and a nuclear submarine into the region.

Pakistan's leadership does not claim to be "Khadim-ul-Haramain", Najdi saudis do. And as for you telling me to remain silent on the basis of me being Pakistani is concerned .... well, I oppose my own country's leadership from the get go, whenever they have entertained the idea of recognizing the illegal, illegitimate, murderer and liar state of israel. The Noble Quran follows the statement regarding the Jews being banished from the Holy Land, that they would only return when Allah Subhanahu Wata'aalah has released Ya'jooj wa Ma'jooj. The latter are nations who are devoid of any Imaan, any humanity and are obsessive, bottomless pit, consumers. The fact that the Jews shall return to the Holy Land, only when Ya'jooj wa Ma'jooj are released, signifies that they (Jews) are expelled from the mercy of Allah Subhanahu Wata'aalah. Since it is the Jewish alliance with Ya'jooj wa Ma'jooj, which brought them back to the Holy Land.

I urge my fellow Pakistanis, my fellow Muslim brothers and sisters around the world, to go and study the Noble Qur'an. Why? Because when Muslims do so, it will empower their Imaan and give them the ability to fight and withstand the oppression, fitna of Dajjal.

Understood and to some extent I agree with you. But aren't alot of young Iranians wanting to become Westernised and free of Islamic culture? What are the ground realities in Iran?

what u say is also a fact. Yes they want that. But the important aspect here is that the ESTABLISHMENT itself is Islamic. The constitution and the fundamental laws of state ensures that it stays that way. Also the military is also IN CHECK with the influence of the revolutionary IRGC. Another aspect is that the leadership of Iran, are HARDCORE religious and they have a huge force of men with guns on the ground (THE BASIJ), so any kind of insurrection in Iran is difficult. Yes the younng people want to be westernized but the leadership has created a mechanism to keep that in control by the means of Constitutional STATE laws alone.

Scum are the Najdi saudi, qatari, emirati, bahraini and kuwaiti leaderships. Arabs are not, nor have ever accused them to be. You state "us", does it mean that you identify yourself to be part of the leadership or supportive of it?

Memorizing/learning is not the same as studying the Noble Qur'an. And I know you know to tell the difference between the two. I am a student of the Noble Qur'an and my teacher is Nabi Muhammad Alaihi Salaat-u-Wassalam.

As for your "bullying" remark, a bully does not distinguish between leadership and the people under it. Nor would a bully urge fellow Muslims to study the Noble Qur'an. Neither would the bully care so much that the people are being misguided by their leadership.

Pakistan's leadership does not claim to be "Khadim-ul-Haramain", Najdi saudis do. And as for you telling me to remain silent on the basis of me being Pakistani is concerned .... well, I oppose my own country's leadership from the get go, whenever they have entertained the idea of recognizing the illegal, illegitimate, murderer and liar state of israel. The same way I have opposed the leaderships of Turkey, Najdi-Sauds, Egypt, Najdi-Emiratis, Jordanian, Kazakhstan, Morocco, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan.

Now this is the kinda passion I like to see. Very good post again. These narratives must be fought. They have to be confronted cuz obviously most cant even digest the truth yet they talk about following god (source of truth) and blah blah
