Israel has 'eight days' to hit Iran nuclear site: US envoy

WASHINGTON: Israel has "eight days" to launch a military strike against Iran's Bushehr nuclear facility and stop Tehran from acquiring a functioning atomic plant, a former USenvoy to the UN has said.

Iran is to bring online its first nuclear power reactor, built with Russia's help, on August 21, when a shipment of nuclear fuel will be loaded into the plant's core.

At that point, John Bolton warned Monday, it will be too late for Israel to launch a military strike against the facility because any attack would spread radiation and affect Iranian civilians.

"Once that uranium, once those fuel rods are very close to the reactor, certainly once they're in the reactor, attacking it means a release of radiation, no question about it," Bolton told Fox Business Network.

"So if Israel is going to do anything against Bushehr it has to move in the next eight days."

Absent an Israeli strike, Bolton said, "Iran will achieve something that no other opponent of Israel, no other enemy of the United States in the Middle East really has and that is a functioning nuclear reactor."

But when asked whether he expected Israel to actually launch strikes against Iran within the next eight days, Bolton was skeptical.

"I don't think so, I'm afraid that they've lost this opportunity," he said.

The controversial former envoy to the United Nations criticized Russia's role in the development of the plant, saying "the Russians are, as they often do, playing both sides against the middle."

"The idea of being able to stick a thumb in America's eye always figures prominently in Moscow," he added.

Iran dismissed the possibilities of such an attack from its archfoes.

Foreign MinistryspokesmanRamin Mehmanparast said Tuesday that "these threats of attacks had become repetitive and lost their meaning."

"According to international law, installations which have real fuel cannot be attacked because of the humanitarian consequences," he told reporters at a news conference in Tehran.

Iranian officials say Iran has stepped up defensive measures at the Bushehr plant to protect it from any attacks.

Russia has been building the Bushehr plant since the mid-1990s but the project was marred by delays, and the issue is hugely sensitive amid Tehran's standoff with the West and Israel over its nuclear ambitions.

The UN Security Council hit Tehran with a fourth set of sanctions on June 9 over its nuclear programme, and the United States and European Union followed up with tougher punitive measures targeting Iran's banking and energy sectors.

The Bushehr project was first launched by the late shah in the 1970s using contractors from German firm Siemens. But it was shelved when he was deposed in the 1979 Islamic revolution.

It was revived after the death of revolutionary founder Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini in 1989, as Iran's new supreme leaderAli Khamenei and his first president, Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, backed the project.

In 1995, Iran won the support of Russia which agreed to finish building the plant and fuel it.

Iran and Israel both are India's friends.. Hope no misadventures happen , which the US wants since its impossible for them to attack Iran openly after attacking 2 countries in this decade. They may be itching to let the Israelis do the job for them.

The article heading seems so misleading. It appears as if USA is threatening Israel to strike or suffer some consequences....

.
I'm tired of these speculations from libturds and republiturds stirring sh!t up just for the sake of creating good masala to American masses. World would be the same after 8 days, as it is now.

Please wake me up when Israel actually attacks Iran.

Practice makes perfect. Might want to give that advice to the other militaries in the region.

Israel bombs Iran - Iran bombs Israel in retaliation specially Dimona: Iran will survive the attack because of its wast spread Land mass

But Israel wouldn't.

The most populated area of Israel is no more than 150Sq kms which would be doomed if such an attack took place.

This guy below has summed it up for you all... dare to watch the video.

Iran Propaganda debunked in less than 6 minutes

The Fellow panellist just said that the Iranians have admitted that they have a nuclear weapons program, and that they are making nuclear weapons. Well that couldn't be further from the truth.

They've denied that they're seeking nuclear weapons over and over again.
What they have is a civilian nuclear program, which is "Safeguarded" by the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) under their Safeguards Agreement.

Any non-nuclear weapons state, such as Iran, which is a member of Non-Proliferation Treaty, must have a Safeguards Agreement with the IAEA, which allows the IAEA inspectors to monitor their nuclear facilities and verify the "non-diversion" – as the IAEA has, in the case of the Iranians, more then a dozen times over the years, including just late last year – they have "continued to verify the non-diversion of any nuclear material to a military or other special purpose," so what they basically saying to you is "we have proved the negative" we have proved what they have not done, they have not diverted any of their nuclear material away. ...

No one is accusing the Iranians of producing plutonium or having any plutonium.
They are being accused of enriching uranium, but they are enriching uranium to a measly 3.6 % industrial grade for use in their electricity program, and then beginning only a couple of weeks ago, when... after they accepted Obama's proposal, and he refused to accept their acceptance of it, they went ahead and began to enrich a very small amount of this uranium, to 20% uranium-235, which still is a far sight from weapons grade uranium, and it is to be used in their American-built medical isotope reactor in Tehran.

However, if you turn it to ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, FOX News or any other of the rest of them – the FOX guys and David Shuster over at the liberal channel MSNBC, will all agree that there is "scary, dangerous nuclear weapons threat" from Iran.

And they just figure, you don't know about a Safeguards Agreement, you don' t know about the Non-Proliferation Treaty, you don't know the difference between 3.6% and 90% uranium 235 and therefore if you're afraid of getting nuked in your jammies in the middle of the night, you'll let them go ahead and have their war. ...

Last September Mark Hosenball reported in a "web-only exclusive" for Newsweek magazine that the CIA, and in fact the rest of the intelligence community, including the other 16 American intelligence that we know about, that they all agreed and put paper work on President Obama's desk – a new report – on his desk saying that they stand by their conclusion of November 2007 that the Iranians do not have a nuclear weapons program and they have not made the political decision to start one.

On February the 15th the director of national intelligence Dennis Blair and I forget the other gentleman's name, but he's the head of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), and they both sat there sworn under oath before the U.S. Imperial Senate and said "We still stand by the conclusion of the unanimous National Intelligence Council, representatives of all 16 intelligence agencies, from November of 2007, and that is the Iranians have not made the decision to begin to make nuclear weapons."

And no, the ability to take a couple of hundred pounds of uranium enriched to 3.6% 235 and turning that into above 90%, 94% pure U-235 to make a weapon is not the same as flipping a light switch and taking one day, you're talking still about years and years. Plus you've got to have the metallurgists machine it into the actual pieces and then you actually would have to have the... I'm not so certain about the terminology. People quibble, they do quibble about, "What is a delivery vehicle? What's a warhead?"

A warhead is the bomb. The delivery is vehicle is what you put that in. Well, they don't have the delivery vehicles, and they don't have warheads, so I'm not sure how these things are supposed to hurt any of us.

It's just nonsense. ...

Another thing I would like to mention, or try to hit off of something that Mr. Erlich said in his talk there, is that a war with Iran would be a disaster. That's the way he put it.

The way I put it is that a war with Iran will mean the deaths of thousands of American soldiers in Iraq and Afganistan. Four thousand soldiers have died in the Iraq war in order to install the Iranians' puppets from the Dawa Party and the Mahdi Army, and the Supreme Islamic Council in power in Baghdad.

And both Abdul Aziz al-Hakim from the Supreme Islamic Council, who is now dead, but his son is in charge, and Moqtada al-Sadr, the big king-maker from the election a couple of weeks ago, have promised that they will go to war with the American occupation, with the United States.

These are the people who did not fight, these are the people who gained when America overthrew Saddam Hussein, and have waited this whole time. And they have said "if you bomb Iran you have to start the war with us all over again."

Not to mention the fact that US soldiers are right there within missile range. It's also perfectly within the capability of the Iranians to close the Straits of Hormuz at the gates of the Persian Gulf, and drive the cost of oil up over 200 dollars a barrel, which will probably destroy what's left of the global economy and the division of labor and global trade.

How would they attack though ? Just launch their longer range missiles ? They don't have many of those(Shahab-3) and the ones they do launch have a possibility of being shot down by the Israeli arrow system. The ones that do make it will have conventional payloads and their CEP will make it hard for them to try to cripple Israel (though enough possibly could). But if Israel fears destruction they will launch what nukes they have.

Honestly, within Iran, such statements, releases and similar clippings are found to be so overly repetitive or monotonous that they are slowly losing their value and credibility amongst the people. I was attracted to this topic due to its title alone.

Thank you for sharing the fox news video. It was entertaining. :)

Pasban i am wondering how do you feel about Ahmadinejad and the current administration ?

Iran has chemical weapons and let me tell you there is no air defense system on the face of this planet which can stop a Missile flying at mach 3+.

Moreover Iran has said to have a sheer number of missiles which can hit anywhere in Israel , they can also attack Dimona which will cause radiation and mass deaths.

If the Israel raided Iran with Nukes , it wont wipe iran out of the map moreover such radiation will Kill Millions in Pakistan too which can force Pakistan to take some action too so Israel wont dare using Nukes even on Iranian soil.

Surgical strike can be avoided as Iranian air force in defensive role would be able to defend their skies if not being able to hit back on Israel.

They have Mirage - F1's and MIG-29's ,F-7's, F-5's , F-4's as well as old Tomcats , they also have some BVR Missiles.

Iran has recently placed Early warning radars in Syria which can predict an attack - and if it did the Iranian airforce will get airborne with its over 300 jets which can outnumber the amount of jets Israelis will send in.

Iran has 10 operational types of SAM's and thousands of AA guns already been placed around vital sites.

They also said to have received Su-30 MKM's and S-300 secretly from Russia (Though there is no official confirmation.)

This is their navy statics:

65 aircraft
5 Frigates
3 Corvettes
13 Submarines
24 Fast Attack Craft
98 Large Patrol craft
+100 light missile boat
13 Hovercraft

* Remember they also have SAMs , Exocet , C802's onboard.

All in all Israel attacks Iran with its airforce , i am sure half of that wont go home and Israel would be the biggest loser in this game.

Israeli Arrow two reaches a max speed of Mach 9. The Shahab 3 travels at 2.1 mach at fastest stage though. It also has Thrust Vectoring.

Their airforce is outdated and old Israel has such a huge Air Force. Even if they lost half their planes it would still be superior to Iran's.

This is true Israel would be at risk of taking losses. They certainly would try to make sure the U.S. is on board with anything they try.

I don't think Israel would have their navy involved besides their subs(Which are some of the most advanced conventional subs in the world) for second strike possibility since at least one is nuclear armed according to sources.
