ISRAEL FEARS ISLAMISTS' VICTORY IN EGYPT ELECTIONS
AGI) Jerusalem - Israel fears Islamists' rise to power in Egypt, after the Muslim Brotherhood reportedly won 40% of the vote. The Salafites were said to have gained 20% of the vote in the parliamentary elections. Tel Aviv, however, hopes that the Israel-Egypt peace treaty will remain intact."This (result) is very, very disturbing. It is still too early to say what changes we will have to face", Israeli Defence Minister Ehud Barak said explaining that, in any case, "whatever government is formed and whatever constitution is written, Egypt will have to understand that it has no alternatives but to maintain the present framework of international agreements, including its peace treaty with us".
