This article makes a valid point but makes too big of a deal out of it. Most people will just follow the new account once it starts being used - those who don't probably aren't too interested in the first place.

Pakistanis tend to not have faith in institutions but in individuals (military does not apply). They expect a messiah will come and fix everything. For example in the USA, most of their citizens cannot name the heads of their respective security agencies, but these institutions run efficiently and effectively. Their defence ministers are not sending out rash tweets from their personal twitter accounts. If they have something to say, they verify and re-verify information and hold a formal press conference

But it's a self fulfilling prophecy, our institutions are corrupt, so people have less faith in them, making them ineffective

Funny you say that considering that US social media was full of people talking about FBI director James Comey - many if not most people on American social media know him by name - some accusing him of being pro-Trump, some applauding him, etc etc

Not to mention all the chaos Trump himself has caused over Twitter. If it's not their defence ministers/secretaries, it's their President-elect.

Most governments around the world are struggling to cope with the increasing influence of social media.

Singling out Pakistan and saying that Pakistanis are the only people in the world susceptible to such things is unfair.

Introspection and self-critique is very good, but sometimes our "desi liberals" take it to another (and unhelpful) level.

I don't think its a non-issue. There should certainly be a standard verified official account representing the department and not the person who is in-charge for a limited term.

It must be kept in mind that it is the need of the department (ISPR) to reach out to masses and not the masses need to reach out to it

Hopefully, the account will transfer with only the handle change

The account is verified on Asim Bajwa name and cant be transferred to the new ISPR Head.
