No, the move has a lot to do with Zardari and his connections that are as a whole more powerful than the agencies can match to. The basic idea is that these two(Tikka Sharif and Lutera Badshah) have been given agendas to carry out by their respective masters(whosoever may those be). To their credit the MQM is not completely as blatantly out for their own good as the PPP and PML(N) folks are. Essentially, the Khakis have also been stupid in trying to handle the situation and still think they are in the 70s and 80s. The power of mass communications has left the country in a much more vicious and fickle state of opinions.

To say it easily, the various qaums in Pakistan are like street dogs.. united when they face a threat bigger than themselves(which is why we have India) and fighting when they feel like its all good.. Just as you can get these stray dogs to start barking and going crazy by taking your car close to them or honking at them.. you can do the same with news and public events.

That "Ehsas e zillat", is something I've now given up on trying to get the various people that make up so called Pakistanis to understand.

And what connections of Zardari would that be? The man has no respect outside of Pakistan or inside. So where does the agencies not being able to touch him remark come from?

It more to do with the fact that since he has allowed PPP to die a natural death and that it commands a bigger populace of the illiterate Sindh, that Zardari can do anything. MQM is small, so let's finish off them first.

Let's look at who takes Zardari seriously or not:
1-Americans only took him seriously as long as BB was alive. They knew he ran the show, as during the 1990s. Today doesn't have an iota of influence by the Americans
2-GCC hate and despise him. They love him for his Business in the region (read Gambling rackets), and that is that....never accorded special attention to him even when he was the President. Before that, it was Mushy and hence the Army asking GCC to deal with Zardari. ISI chief lands in Abu Dhabi, he is accorded a full red carpet reception. Zardari goes as a president, gets nothing
3-French hate him the most perhaps, because of his 'wadera' mentality he proved in the Sheraton bombing of the French engineers. His name is among the accused in the French courts, by those family members who lost their innocent loved ones for the greed of one single man.
4-Japanese snubbed him when he went begging with that fake smile
5-Chinese knew the man is clever as a fox, but totally oblivious to deal with the present day issues. 5 years of PPP rule under Zardari, and you tell how much 'deals' in military or civilian happened? All of a sudden Chinese banks are opening their branches in Pakistan and dealing with the military again. You very well know what happened to MoD finances during his time. (not that the sharifs are any better)

The military establishment within Pakistan is wary of him, due to his 10% tag accorded in 1990s again

Now coming to Sindh, well, the poor are illiterate and the others cannot really see beyond their nose, so they consider him god. But what can be expected of a race or nation that thinks Bhutto is alive. Hardworking, middle class Sindhis hate him as much as perhaps i do.......not to mention that my dad went to Petaro with him....and and most of those who went into hardworking life, despised him back then and despise him now. Men like Zardari don't change. Zardari was a clever thug back then. Zulfiqar Mirza was one year junior to Zardari....two years later he was one year senior to Zardari.

Outside of Sindh, the guy has no influence. The only issue is that PPP is bigger than MQM....since MQM took the minority 'Mohajirs' onboard...or at least made them feel like it....while PPP has Sindh and had more national leaders like Zulfiqar Bhutto.....so naturally PPP is a lot tougher to sideline than MQM. Wasn't MQM created by the establishment to check PPP in power? So the establishment needs PPP to keep the PML-N in check or Mr Dharna. Without PPP, who is there to tackle Mr Sharif? The Pir Pagara?

Let's not forget the memogate and hussain haqqani....brainchild of none other than Zardari himself, leaving the Army directly in a confrontation mood.
Zardari has dismantled all that PPP once was. Sooner than later, it's gonna end.
Zardari enjoys influence with the Sindhis..that is true. But not really untouchable.
