ISLAND of DHARMA

Brother, that is all nonsense and propaganda. Tamil Tigers are a peaceful movement aimed at uniting all of South Asia under the banner of peace. Sinhalese didnt like this and so they attacked us and we created a military wing to defend ourselves. For Tamils, love and peace come naturally. However this is the opposite for Sinhalese who take pleasure from death and destruction.

I can confirm this at some extents as Tamils always maintained peace whenever there was a SAARC meeting. But as the war is finished you guys should live peacefully under one country. And I know all Srilankans including Tamils are living in peace now. Or you have plans for separation in future.

Mate you need to ask that from a Sri Lankan Tamil.. Not from some butt farked Tiger pussy hiding away in Canada

LTTE Tamils committed Kattankudy mosque massacre and then ethnically cleansed Muslims from from the Northern province. Now the Sinhalese Buddhist Bodu Bala Sena are attacking Muslims in Sri Lanka. Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Sri Lanka’s powerful defence secretary and the president’s brother is supporting terrorist Bodu Bala Sena. Pakistan must not sell JF-17 either to Sri Lanka nor to Myanmar both are involved anti-Muslim at government level.

A wonderful country I had the best of times but there was a tension in the air against muslims in general at the time and it was scary at times. But hopefully things are better now i hope because the calm and quiet one feels on secluded beaches is something i miss

Hopefully they will see a change of presidency come the 8th of Jan and with it a defeat to this corrupt regime.. There is a huge back lash from the general populace towards certain sections of the the Rajapaksa regime espousing ethnic unrest by covertly supporting extremists like the BBS.. The BBS has been reduced to a joke

Hopefully there will be a open dialog between Sri Lankan Muslims and the rest against extremist elements from both sides.. As the govt used the BBS successfully as a reactionary force to certain fundamentalist aspects that was creeping in to what once was one of the most secular Muslim committee's in the region.. Mainly funded by Wahhabi's based in South India and Saudi money, Created a stir among the general populace when they started attacking mainstream and long established sufi mosques

My brother, why do you take the side of Sinhalese hybrids? You should join the side of your pure Tamil brothers and help us achieve freedom.

come on man... cant you guys just co-exist peacefully? i mean you guys have been living together for like a billion years.. and than one day you pick up weapons... kill people n shit hits the fan... now there is no ilam or ltte... just accept it.... and embrace like brothers bury the hatchets and so on.

As for me.. well id chose whats good for SL ... the country supported us in indo Pak wars... and trust me we are anything but backstabbers... and besides i have Sinhala buddies and so on.. but i dont hate you guys either (atleast not the guys who are terrorists)...

Great to know the country is so beautiful it would be sad to see it face problems because of ethnicity. Great to see such positive mindsets :)

.. It seems like some are indeed sprouting up at corner shops in Toronto these days

Anyway leaving the poor sod to his spamming

Kataragama in South East Sri Lanka is another multi religious pilgrimage site, Where Buddhists, Hindus and Muslims pray together.. And for the aboriginal Veddha people

Just out of curiosity are there any other places of such multi religious worship in the sub continent??

I dont know but there are sufi shrines who are revered by people of all religions... and even historical heroes like Abdullah Bhatti... in Pakistan...

Unprecedented corruption, nepotism and thuggery have reduced his popularity.. He is still largely considered the savior of the country by people especially Sinhalese Buddhists.. His regime has totally alienated minority community's with creating covert ethnic issues to solidify his vote base among the majority community.. But even that is waning due to his growing tendency of a dictator

Other day you said, you are a Dutch Burghers. So why most of the Dutch Burghers today living outside Srilanka?
Is it because of ethnic tension?

I dont like beaches or sea much... but those high lands look nice... would visit someday with my fiance/wife..

Congrats are in order :-)

Arabs and Moorish traders have been visiting the island for over a millenia.. They called it Serendip.. The word Serendipity derived from the name of ancient Ceylon

I didn't know that.

I would be home in Sri Lanka I think.

Some places remind me of Kerala at times. No offense meant :)

Not per Se..We are a community born out of colonialism.. After the one language policy was passed in 1956, Many minorities felt alienated.. English is our mother tongue, All the people studied and worked in English as it was the official language of the country.. Many found it difficult to adapt to Sinhalese.. Countries like Australia at that time was giving precedent to those with European blood to migrate.. So many took the opportunity.. But we do keep out Lankan roots intact.. And many still do live there well integrated to the Sri Lankan society by large

Congrats are in order :-)

Their first king was bijoy singha who was a bengali and later shipped to Sinhala with his companions. According to his name this sinhala name came. He was forced out from bengal because he was so ruthless.

His war with Hindus are new to me.
Only Pakistanis know about that.......infact, they know things in History which the rest of the world doesn't know or agree with.....

I don't want to be seen as anti-rajapaksa, nor do I pretend I know anything about Sri Lankan politics. But I think peace time requires another leader than a war leader.

I don't know if anyone in Sri Lanka that is proficient in administration and is relatively clean.

Sri lanka's development is head and shoulders above the others in the region.

A decade of solid growth can see it knocking on the doors of developed nations
