Islamic State jihadists have released a video showing the murder of 21 Egyptians, who they captured in Libya around Christmas.

The Egyptians, dressed in orange jump suits, were beheaded after being forced down on the ground. The video appeared on the Twitter feed of a website that supports Islamic State. A caption on the five-minute video read: "The people of the cross, followers of the hostile Egyptian church."

Before the killings, one of the militants stood with a knife in his hand and said: "Safety for you crusaders is something you can only wish for."

The 21 men, all migrant workers hailing from impoverished areas of central Egypt, were kidnapped between late December and early January. Fourteen came for the same village, Al-Our.

An eyewitness to the abductions of several of the men on January 4 told The Telegraph that black-clad militants had entered their living quarters in the middle of the night, carrying a list of named Christians. Relatives in adjoining rooms were left cowering behind their doors, waiting for the jihadists to break them down. But the militants left suddenly, apparently after kidnapping an allotted quota of victims.

nd it was also announced on Saturday that a second group of 21 Egyptians had been kidnapped in Libya - this time from Misrata. It wasn't clear why Isil had seized two groups of 21 people.

Isil claims to have established affiliate groups in three different areas of Libya, a common destination for Egyptian Christians.

The story of Isil's Egyptian hostages is entwined with those of the region's soured revolutions.

They left Egypt, their families say, for a better life. Four years after the overthrow of long-time ruler Hosni Mubarak, the country's battle-scarred economy offered them little work, and Christian churches and shops in their governorate, Minya, had faced a series of high-profile sectarian attacks.

The journey out of poverty to Libya is one that many have made over the years. Every year, thousands of Egyptians are lured by the prospect of salaries up to seven times greater than the paltry sums they can command at home.

The government of President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi has faced heavy criticism from the families of the hostages, who say they have seen no concrete attempts to resolve the situation.

RIP ...

Arab nations breaking down day by day...Fajr Libya members also have been beheaded by this IS branch in Libya. Also recently jordanian pilot burned alive was Muslim. 99% of those beheaded by ISIS are also Muslim. So I don't want to see OP turn this into anti-Muslim thread.

@Frogman @al-Hasani

Of course it Egypt now gets involved it will result in even more detoriation which 'they' want. And if Saudis and GCC get involved in Yemen it would lead to Saudi-Iran skirmish. So this is lose lose situation which weakens everybody in region but Israel. Turkey also could be weakened by Kurdish independence issue. So all these events taking place have instilled tribal mentality into people of region which as I said is intended to see all these nations burn in order for Israeli benefit.

can you imagine Christians doing this to Muslims??
perverted and wrong. just how many people in the Muslims world support ISIS?? is it in the millions, tens of millions, or more??

And you stated several times that you support this

I told you before that I support Barack Obama. Nuff said, don't get off topic.

No that's not what I said either, I stated if Arab leaders/West ignored plight s in region it would lead to this.

Very sad news. Unacceptable and unnecessary. The action of evil and deranged "people".
May the victims rest in peace.

@Azizam

With all due respect but the biggest victims of Daesh are mostly local Iraqis and Syrians. Sunni Arabs to be precise.
Just like 99% of the victims of AQAP attacks in Yemen are local Yemeni Muslims.

Are you going to make a thread every single time local Arabs get killed by Daesh? Minorities are a very small part of the overall casualties.

It's still equally as sad but what is annoying is that they somehow get 2-3 as much publicity as if they were more "worthy" of getting that publicity.

There are 10 million Christians in Egypt. 99% of them have nothing to fear in their everyday life's.

This news is obviously worthy of a thread but I am not sure about your motives for making it. I don't hope it's to make the current conflicts appear to be centered about the plight of minorities in war torn countries when they are a tiny part of the overall casualties in the various conflicts.

Such actions are obviously done deliberately to get more publicity in the international media and to create rifts within the Egyptian society. No, it has less to do with them being non-Muslims as 99% of all the victims of Daehs attacks are Muslims.

If anything Daesh is the prime anti-Muslim group currently. Not only do they kill more Muslims than anyone else currently they are also giving an extremely bad picture of Muslims and Islam - the religion that they have hijacked and abused.

Dude! Don't think we have dementia. We know that you supported them but then again you change your opinion faster than a spacecraft so I don't take them seriously but just so you know we have not forgotten anything. :-)

The region is in a mess. Or at least Iraq, Syria, Libya, Afghanistan, Somalia, Israel/Palestine, parts of Pakistan and Yemen is. So far Egypt (mainly Sinai) is still a low-profiled conflict where less than 1000 people die each year.

@al-Hasani I am not ignoring the suffering of locals but the point is minorities are more likely to be targeted than Sunni Muslims and these are just popular stories while there are more unspeakable crimes happening as we speak but I am not going to post them. For instance in Egypt, when the Muslim brotherhood was overthrown, protesters were accusing Coptic Christians, even on this forum. What did Christians have to do anything with the incident?

Also you can't ignore the fact that many locals actually support them and without the support ISIS wouldn't exist. Part of the blame also goes to the West who took rulers like Saddam and Gaddafi out by force which initiated the whole mess in the first place.

Also the media publicity is not a valid point. The Jordanian pilot received more publicity than over 500 Yazidi women who under these savages as sex slaves. Even the initial campaigns against Yazidis were overshadowed by Gaza media coverage.

Don't be so ignorant. These people don't represent us and they are killing Muslims like mosquitos. I don't know why you make such an argument.

You should thank Mrs Clinton for destabilizing Libya, an otherwise stable country, just like Iraq. All of this bloodshed is on your hands.

RIP poor chaps ... world armies muslims or non muslims shall surround these scum bags from all sides and finish this scum from khorasan - gates of europe and africa ... remove this cancer

on our hands?? no one is forcing ISIL to behead Christians,Shia, or anyone who isn't part of their click.

i'm just seeing apathy in the Muslim world over such atrocities, but when a non-muslim does wrong to a Muslim it's time to protest and burn flags or worse.
