Islamic State kills senior Afghan Taliban official in Pakistan: militants

The militant Islamic State (IS) group killed a senior Afghan Taliban official in Peshawar, the Afghan militants said on Saturday, in a rare clash between the rival Islamist groups inside Pakistan.

Afghan Taliban sources told Reuters Maulvi Daud was killed on the outskirts of Peshawar with two other men on Thursday. Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid confirmed Daud's death.

The IS on Friday claimed responsibility for "assassination of a Taliban leader" a day earlier, without naming him, through the group's affiliated news agency AMAQ.

The IS, which at one point controlled huge chunks of territory across Syria and Iraq, has made some inroads into Afghanistan but the militant group has met tough resistance from the Taliban as well as US and Afghan special forces.

Afghan Taliban sources said Daud was based in Afghanistan's Logar province but would frequently visit Pakistan.

The militant group does not control any territory inside Pakistan but the group has claimed responsibility for several large-scale bomb attacks.

Pakistan denies IS has any presence inside the country.

They certainly seem to have a lot of the same enemies as US policy makers in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan. I doubt the US controls Daesh, but if this was an Olympic sport it would be called Curling with terrorist groups

Of course the US does not control Daesh. This is a case where the USA applauds the death of Maulvi Daud and pray to Allah for the deaths of his killers. They both are terrorists and they both need to die. ASAP ......

I think Russians should be involved in Afghanistan, it looks like Americans are against peace in Afghanistan. Russia and China should be involved and Pakistan should play a neutral role. Maybe Pakistan should give bases to Russians near Afghan border so Russians have some influence in Afghanistan.
It was rumored that Russia was looking for a good Mil. base during recent visit of Russian General along Pak-Afghan border in North Waziristan.

If they want to kill Afghan Taliban members they could do it in Afghanistan itself where both has significant presence.....Why in Pakistan?

in Pakistan they come as refugees with no guards or weapons and try not to get caught. So they are easy to target in Pakistan than afghanistan in presence of thousands of armed supporters.
