1. If TTP gain a foothold in Pakistani territory there will be less non Taliban controlled military entities in Afghanistan.

2. If the fence is damaged and the border becomes porous again Taliban can continue to smuggle without reliance on official Pakistani crossings.

3. No Afghan accepts the Durand line. Keeping it hot and pushing PA away from the border and stops us from formalising the border.

How does Pakistan benefit?

1. Current govt can use the security situation to put off elections.

2. People are less likely to attend political gatherings of opposition if there is the threat of suicide bombers.
