What was the need to construct such a large monstrosity?

What you clearly missed was the ability for the above countries citizens to own vehicles and their population. Any single one of the countries mentioned above, has three to ten times lesser population than Pakistan. In New York, Paris and other places, the actual "metro" is underground trains. Which have their own stations built every few blocks. So within Metro, there is multiple lines for trains to go through.

Additionally, in Pakistan, there is a MUCH larger population who'd take the metro, plus the weather is MUCH hotter than any places you conveniently described above. So, to provide proper shelter and convenience to masses of people, it makes sense to have bigger over the ground stations. Which are STILL smaller than the underground metro stations found in Paris and New York, etc. So check all the facts before posting silly crap please.

Similar short-comings throughout Punjab in health and education sectors coupled with high unemployment and what does the provincial government decide to do?

  • Ahmedabad, India $3 million/km
  • Dalian, China $4.5m/km
  • Guangzhou, China $6.5m/km
  • Istanbul, Turkey $10m/km
  • Bogota, Columbia (new phase) $13.3m/km
  • Lima, Peru $10m/km
  • Los Angeles, USA $ 14.4m/km

Given lower labour costs in Pakistan and averaging the above figures, a fair estimate for infrastructure costs should be approximately $5-7m/km.

Therefore, at $11m/km, the Lahore Metrobus cost wise is substantially higher than the benchmark.

@SBD-3 @Leader @Jzaib

I am assuming you are done enlightening people with such mathematical facts??? Ever heard the term "economies of scale"??? If not, then google it first. For any of these systems to be built cost effectively, the local government needs investors and an economy that can support building the mass infrastructure. There has to be a "minimal" production setup for everything that guarantees manufacturers a standard and stable return on investment and the manufacturers then provide their products at a reduced price.

Now in Pakistan, your economy is NOW growing. These projects are HELPING it grow and are being put in place so that in the next few years, when the economy starts to take off, poor people, who'd get the most benefit in terms of getting work and using metro systems to get to and back from work, would benefit the most.
When a country doesn't have the financial means to get anything done on its own due to lack of financial strength, and someone actually wants to invests into it, you can bet your money that the interest rate or the loan term or the product would be more expensive and majority of the time, it is imported the first few times around. But in the long run, the support equipment and maintenance, etc, starts to take place inside the country, resulting in creating more jobs, services, products, etc.
You guy need to see the good in it. The system helps millions of people every month. It brings modern infrastructure, management and production services to Pakistan, that otherwise, won't even get here as Pakistan didn't really have the financial means. Plus, the net result is, growth everywhere across Pakistan, no matter how many fools cry wolf every day on this forum. It actually shameful to see silly people, sitting in expensive homes and AC's, bashing things like these, who help million of poor people, who actually matter. Very shameful indeed.

This is NOT about economies of scale idiot. These projects aren't helping anyone grow when there are commissions and kickbacks for everyone involved. I'd be damn happy if it was just about economies of scale. Thanks for missing the entire damn point of the thread. Now move along with your sermon-ious rant.

Idiot is the one who don't have brains to put 2+2 together. If these projects weren't helping anyone, why did IK try to start something like this in the KPK? and FAILED miserably like his entire life in politics everywhere else.

You have no clue what's coming out of your mouth. But you'll say it to support your political affiliation, making your country look like a fool's paradise!! How about you fix the eff-ups your "leader in training" is doing in KPK, vs. others who are doing the work and showing progress????

In Lahore, there are around 150,000 people who take the Metro every day and thank God for it in that hot, burning heat. When you decide to leave your father's AC house from some posh neighborhood, go take a trip in this metro and lower your standards. And then imagine who and why people voted for who'll come again. Till then, stupidity can be found all week long, and three times on Sunday on this forum!

They actually tried to take the railways land for peanuts and made tall claims about building metro in just 4 Billion Rs but when Railways disallowed, seeing the cost of alternative route, they rather shelved the project.

.
Check the Dollar rate of Pakistan and India before comparing it

For kochi metro they have to keep consideration of cost escalation as the project will be be finished by mid 2016.The station is much posh & big compared to bus metro stations and so more cost, construction span about 3 years and not like 1 or 1.5 years as bus metro, cost to huge electricity consumption which further add cost, expensive rolling stocks and maintenance of rolling stocks and proper parking sheds added again to cost and much more....So i believe the cost of your bus metro is high.

Only in Pakistan would you make such a big fuss over a bloody bus stop and bus service.

Not surprising when you hold ceremonies for roads.

Pathetic low life mindset. You should be thinking to build skyscrapers and huge shopping malls and maglev trains not this jungla bus service.

and Its just a bus service, Imagine if they had setup Maglev, these no good for nothing will bring the sky down.
Sky scrapers and huge shopping malls dont do any good for common public but infrastructure is a must in order for a country to go towards sky scrapper and huge malls. I cant imagine people complaining about providing ordinary people with comfortable Air conditioned buses and that too at the same fare and even less than "break my back" mini busses. I guess the torture people go thru on our roads going from point A to point B doesnt concern people.

Benazir hospital to be renovated

Quote:
RAWALPINDI: The Punjab government will soon release Rs98.7 million for the refurbishment of 65-year-old building of Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH).

Talking to Dawn, BBH Medical Superintendent Dr Asif Qadir Mir said the renovation work was likely to start this month.

He said the amount would be released under annual development programme of the provincial government.

According to the plan, the ceiling, walls and washrooms of medical and surgical wards will be refurbished and outpatient department will be extended to create more space for the patients.

The MS said the building, constructed in late 1950s, needed to be renovated to provide healthy environment to the patients. He said no major renovation had been done since its construction.

He said that the work on reconstruction of emergency department was in progress at a cost of Rs60 million.

He said that mostly 1,400 patients daily visited emergency department and over 1,500 came to OPD of the hospital.

Benazir hospital to be renovated - Newspaper - DAWN.COM

"Education system in dire straits, people dont have money for roti and corrupt govt of Shahbaz Sharif spending freely on stupid hospitals and too on a hispital thats named after another corrupt politicians, we smell mukmuka", Says a PTI supporter and then all PTI supporters started repeating the same line

.
C'mon bro! You keep posting the same old pics of that Institute of Urology under construction. And its good that Benazir Hospital will be renovated. But you are missing the point, its not just about ONE hospital or ONE school, or ONE anything. If someone says the education and health system of Punjab are amazing, there will not be a bigger liar than that person.

So instead of fixing the system by investing money into it and instituting reforms and accountability, PMLN simply believes in slapping concrete everywhere, big shiny buses, and then relax cuz 'vote tow pakka hogaya' in their opinion.

Faisalabad Childern Hospital in under Const... 500 Bed is under construction in Wa Cantt almost 300 bed Hopital is under construction in Rawat General hospital faisalabad extension is under construction and many more i can even post pics of them....

So it's not about one hospital one school metro bus was made by Development funds

how many KP build new hospitals and schools?

Punjab is way ahead of other 3 provinces in terms of education, universities, colleges, health facilities, infrastructure, raod and transport facilities.

All those kiddies who are bashing the infrastructure projects in punjab, first better do some thing in their own province.

.
The cities of punjab are much much better than other cities of pakistan. They are no way near perfection, but much better than the same size cities in other provinces.

Its very frustrating to see the condition of interior sindh, kpk , balochistan.
Even karachi has been brought to edge of destruction by this ppp mqm nexus.

Let all cities develop and progress and stop typical useless bashing like mother in law.

Where was he when the Metro Project was about to start he said the same project cost is 4 billion we have Asian Development bank report with us we will go to supreme court???

Why didn't he went to supreme court to stop this project?

where did ADB report vanished?

if he was so sure that this project will cost 4 billion then why he didn't present the report on media or in front of Supreme court??
Although I disagree with you about large bus stops and agree with menace2 for having total waste of money on mere bus stops but you are right about the 4 billion rupees claim being wrong.

An average bus in London, if bought by Transportation for London in large quantity costs 350,000 pounds that is half million dollars or more than 5 crore rupees. So the cost of 50 buses alone is 2.5 billion rupees without a dedicated bus lane, stops and brt system.

Ps: I know Turkish buses might be cheaper but they have apparently not compromised with the quality of buses so I expect major sum

This is not a KPK thread. Open up a new one if you require information or thanks to PTI's 'Right to Information' Law, you can directly question KPK government and they will be happy to oblige.

Obviously! When Punjabi politicians take taxes from all over the country but invest the most in their own province of Punjab - even then if Punjab isn't ahead of all other provinces then those Punjabi politicians would really be inept. Everyone knows how much tax contributions come from Karachi, but Karachi barely sees a dime of it.

And by saying Punjab, I mean Lahore and its surrounding areas, what I call the Greater Lahore Area (G.L.A) which patwari league is busy investing in to buy off votes for next election. South Punjab - the Siraikis - is in deep ruin and poverty much like interior Sindh under the jiyala party there.
