Islamabad in chaos, martial law imminent

Attacks the largest news network in Pakistan? Something's up here. Why's Musharraf in Lahore during all of this? Look beyond the obvious.

Appreciate your insight Asim. Perhaps someone from within Musharraf's power base is trying to sabotage his regime? Perhaps to get him to resign?

i also agree this might just be the case but who can it be that is the big "Q" (?) this just might be the "Macbeth" of2007 trust me at least it seems that chances are there.

Well, if this is actually they case, then the two obvious questions are "Who?" and "Why?".

Could it be the pro taliban extremist group that is opposing Akhund's arrest and the recent shift in Pakistan's afghan policy favouring Hekmatyar?

Or is it the more over ground opposition, the likes of Bhutto and Nawaz's political parties?

Or could it be the U.S. lobby pulling strings to pressurize Musharraf?

Three candidates I could think of. The first one seems most likely to me (personally!).

Its celebration time for the media in south asia.

Mushraff sacking the CJ and ensuing unrest, Police shootings in Nandigram, Maoists killing Police in chatisgarh, WC 07....

the U.S wont take that risk nawaz & benazir are helpless nonetheless but a fourth guess would definitely put pm.shaukat aziz in a very complicated position.

Nandi gram is just typical drama. Are there state or municipal elections in W.B. coming up?

Am worried about the Maoist situation. They are affiliated to some mainstream parties/groups and that is the cause of the problem.

And, the Pakistan situation is fascinating. A lot of politics over there takes place in public. This type never happens in India, here the politicians are a bit more discreet.

you know bull even i was thinking this might be some type of cold war behind the scenes play in which the U.S vs the Russia/china angle fits in Russia needs India back on its backyard they lost Iraq , Afghanistan to U.S Libya is as good as dead their might be a strategic game at play

I have read that Musharraf's days are up and US will certainly back Somro up as the new leader. I will try to find the link. This is a signal of utter disaster.

who the hell is soomro. I dont think Musharraf's time is up. look at the media they still dont hate musharraf. if you look at the transmission they only blame all the ministers. people in the media still like musharraf and i think he did the right thing when he apologized and i do think this is someone from the political parties trying to make musharraf resign.
i seriously dont want Nawaz or Bhutto come back that is the worst thing that could happen at this point in time. may musharraf remain a little more longer so that he can really make the economy stronger.

They dont like Musharraf anymore. CNN said Members of Pakistani Parliament also arrested, restrictions on media reporting are in effect. Things dont look good. There was Ayaz Amir on the telefone with CNN-IBN, he said some people were injured in police attack on GEO premises.

Nawaz urges public support for pro-CJP demonstrations

LAHORE: Opposition politicians on Thursday continued their criticism of the government for the suspension of the chief justice of Pakistan, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. PML-N Chief Nawaz Sharif appealed to his supporters to fully participate in protests in support of the CJP across Pakistan on Friday.

Cheetah,

It seems like we all have some kind of problems of blood sucking mullahs or maoist or sena types... talk about Unity in Diversity, I am impressed by the way the guys have stuck together in this forum, e

Well.. our politicians are just as bad. You hear about Maoists/Naxals? They are alive because of their nexus with the local politicians. Our "netas" don't mind killing etc. but they just do it in a more discreet way.

Musharraf is a survivor. However the NYT reported the United States courting a certain General Ahsan Hyat as a likely successor to Musharraf.
