Have to agree. I can understand the Pakistani disappointment towards the IOC since we were raised with a certain vision and ideology as far as Islamic solidarity and brotherhood are concerned. When we realize that other Muslim countries always place their personal interest over Islamic brotherhood we get angry and disappointed.

This however does not take away the fact that
many OIC member states have and continue to support us in different ways. The purpose of course is personal interest and not Islamic solidarity but it is still a win win situation. We should not disparage the whole platform because it's member states values do not reflect our own. Instead make the best out of the situation. As you say we cannot carry the Afghan burden alone. Whatever help we can leverage for the Afghans, the better it is for the whole region.

But then the fault is with Pakistanis. We need to learn how to put Pakistan's interest before ANYTHING else just like ALL the other Muslims do for their own countries. NON-Pakistani Muslims NEVER told us to believe in the non-existent "Ummah" or the non-existent "Muslim solidarity".

You people are so jaded. If you see negativity and failure in everything, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. One of the things I admire about IK is his optimism. So in spite of all the cynicism in this thread, I am optimistic that good for the Afghans and Pakistan will come from this conference, insha Allah.

So in spite of all the cynicism in this thread, I am optimistic that good for the Afghans and Pakistan will come from this conference, insha Allah.

Hopefully it does raise enough money to help the Afghans get through this winter and somewhat get on their feet. But, it will also show the likely limit of the aid the Afghans can expect from the outside world, and beyond which they will have to make deals with neighbors and outside actors to get their economy going again.

They definitely need a bridge to carry them through the next 6-12 months, but beyond that, they will need FDI. Perhaps at this meeting OIC member countries could also offer them investment opportunities if they uphold their commitments. It would be a win win for countries looking to diversify their economies, and mining in Afghanistan could be a way to help the all involved. The more investors the better for the Afghans as they can then get the best prices for their minerals.

I don't understand why Indians assume pakistan wants IOK? Pakistan wants all of India not irrelevant Kashmir is not even logistically worthy of going to war for such an irrelevant and small target considering the magnitude of the war but rest assured Pakistan wants all of India now that is worth the hassle and worth the magnitude.. I want to see some Pakistani investors taking some risks and investing in Afghanistan. Sure they may not have the resources that the US or China may have, but they know the people and the market better than anyone else. If there were ever an opportunity to "buy low and sell high", this is it.

I'm thinking materials for semi conductor but looks like China will beat everyone to it again. Pakistan lacks expertise, opportunities are there but economy is very basic right now.

It doesn't have to be high tech. We're talking about a country that has nothing. Pakistan can offer a lot. How about contracts for infrastructure development, cement, fertilizer, marble cutting, chemicals, the list is long. Afghanistan right now is almost a clean slate. Pakistan can help it develop, and make some money in the process.
