Islamabad is expecting several rallies and demonstrations throughout the city from October 27 to November 2, 2016. These demonstrations could extend beyond November 2. Anticipate a heavy police presence throughout the city and in the vicinity of the larger scheduled demonstrations. Many roads will be blocked or heavily congested.
Thursday, October 27:
* A political party has planned three events in Rawalpindi beginning on October 27 to "warm-up" party supporters for the proposed lockdown of Islamabad on November 2.
Friday, October 28:
* The Defense of Pakistan Council (DPC) has scheduled a demonstration in Aabpara, located in G-6/1, against the government for not launching protests regarding the situation in Kashmir.
* A Political Party`s Chairman will attend public meetings at Lal Haveli in Rawalpindi on October 28.
Road closures and traffic disruptions are expected on:
* Islamabad Expressway
* Murree Road
* Club Road
* Faizabad Flyover
Note: Travel to/from Rawalpindi is expected to be disrupted
Saturday, October 29 and Sunday, October 30:
A political party will hold a rally in Islamabad on October 29 to "warm-up" its supporters for the proposed lockdown on November 2. The rally will begin in Bara Kahu at 1400, proceed through Sector I-8, Pind Bagwal, Timar, Chirah, Tiramri, Rawal Dam Chowk, the Melody Market area, Sitara Market, G-8 Markaz, G-9 Markaz, G-10 Markaz, G-11 Markaz, Jaffar Chowk, and will end at I-10 Markaz.
* Traffic is expected to be disrupted in Islamabad; however, it is not likely to affect Constitution Avenue.
* Although there are no scheduled rallies for October 30, there is a potential for activities on October 29 to continue into the following day.
Wednesday, November 2, 2016:
A political party has announced plans to shut down Islamabad beginning at 1400. Supporters are scheduled to demonstrate at eight locations throughout Islamabad. Those locations are listed below.
Targeted locations:
1. Tarnol Phatak on Grand Trunk Rd (Road coming from Peshawar to Rawalpindi/Islamabad)
2. CDA Stop on IJP Road from Rawalpindi to Faizabad/Islamabad
3. Khanna Bridge on Express Highway coming from Lahore to Islamabad
4. Bhara Kaho on Murree Road coming from Murree to Islamabad
5. Faizabad Intersection on Express Highway and Murree Road
6. G-11 Intersection on Kashmir Highway coming from Rawalpindi
7. Zero Point on Express Highway and Kashmir Highway
8. Serena Chowk on Kashmir Highway
Emergency Preparedness during Demonstrations and Protests:
Duration and intensity of these demonstrations are unknown at this time. Please take time to prepare yourself in order to maintain readiness in response to a crisis. Demonstrations can often increase in size and turn violent with little warning.
Cell Phones: Ensure your cell phones are charged and monitor them regularly.
Landlines/Wi-Fi: Ensure that your residential landlines and Wi-Fi are operational.
Maintain provisions for at least three days (water, food, and supplies)and have sufficient cash on hand. Also, make sure you have enough medication (at minimum a week's worth) and paper copies of your prescriptions.
