ISIS Failed in India Despite Our Large Muslim Population: Rajnath Singh

New Delhi: Talking about his ministry on completion of three years of the Narendra Modi government, Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday said ISIS has been unable to establish itself in India despite the country having the second highest Muslim population in the world.

“India is the second largest country as far as Muslim population in the world is concerned. I can say with full responsibility that despite such a large population (of Muslims), the ISIS has not been able to set foot,” he said.

Barring two terror attacks in Punjab in 2015-16, the security situation in the country had by and large remained under control, the minister said at a press conference. "We have strived to provide security for the nation, with full responsibility."

He also added that about 90 ISIS sympathisers had been arrested across the country. “ISIS and Ansar Ul Ammah have been included in the list of terrorist organisations,” said Singh.

Five terrorists of the Indian Mujahideen (IM) group were given capital punishment as part of the government's focused efforts to check terrorism, Singh said.

According to the Union Minister, there had been a 25% reduction in Naxal attacks in 2014-17 as compared to 2011-14 (UPA tenure). He also said that the three years of NDA government had seen a 42% reduction in deaths in Naxal attacks as compared to last three years of the UPA.

Singh said there was 45% reduction in infiltration from Pakistan in the six months post the 2016 September 29 surgical strike at the Line of Control as compared to the corresponding period previous year.

The minister said the government would put an end to Pakistan-sponsored terrorism and ensure peace in Jammu and Kashmir.

Singh also mentioned special initiatives being taken by the NDA government to provide skill and job opportunities to youths in Kashmir.

  Kabul-based Pajhwok Afghan News agency quoted an unnamed security official as saying that “13 Indian Daesh militants were also among those killed”. Daesh is a name used by Afghan and Arab officials to refer to IS.
  
  The security official said 13 IS commanders were also among the dead. At least two of the commanders – identified by the official only as Mohammad and Allah Gupta – were from India.
  
  Sheikh Waqas, a former member of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba and a resident of the Orakzai tribal region, was also among the dead commanders.
  
  Diplomatic sources in Kabul said there was “no confirmation of these reports”. An Indian security source in New Delhi also said: “No confirmation as of now about the killing of any Indian in the attack.”
  
  Amaq News Agency, the IS media arm, has said none of the group’s fighters were killed in the attack.
  
  The security source said NIA officials were in touch with families of Indians suspected of being recruited by IS to gather details.
  
  At least two dozen Indians, including 21 from Kerala, were believed to have joined the IS in eastern Afghanistan, the area that was targeted by the GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast Bomb (MOAB), nicknamed the “mother of all bombs”, on April 13.
  
  Relatives of these people too said they had no information about the fate of their wards. Thirteen of the missing are from Padanna village in north Kerala’s Kasargode district.
  
  Before the MOAB attack, two alleged Indian recruits – Mohamed Mursheed and Mohammad Hafeezuddin – had died in the past two months. Hafeezuddin died two months ago but news of Mursheed’s death was conveyed to his family two days before the MOAB attack.
  
  “After informing us about the death of Mursheed, we are yet to hear from them. I tried to send a message to Ashfaaq Majeed, one of the missing youth who used to send us messages, on Telegram but it elicited no replies,” said BC Rehman, a relative of one of the missing men.

Accidents happen, it was probably not the intention to expose Indians sitting at Pak border, under cover of Isis.
Actually all of Isis is a masked evil. They roam around freely from Syria to Afghanistan, they have supplies available every where, when under siege, they disappear like Mr. India.

Padanna, India: The aspiring jihadists began leaving here quietly in May, slipping away in twos and threes to avoid suspicion.

By the time their relatives realized they were missing, five families - some with small children - had left their comfortable bungalows and jobs as doctors and businessmen to make the perilous journey to Islamic State-controlled territory in Afghanistan.

Authorities believe 19 adults and three children settled in Nangarhar province, on the mountainous border with Pakistan. Their departure has raised alarms about the Islamic State's reach in India as well as growing extremism in Kerala, a southern state with deep ties through migrant workers to the Arab Gulf.

Two of the Keralites have been killed by drones in Nangarhar, including one as recently as April 11, family members say. Then, on April 13, American forces dropped a Massive Ordnance Air Blast bomb on a cave complex where militant commanders were believed to be hiding.


In the ensuing devastation, 13 Indian nationals were among the 94 who died, Afghan authorities say, but whether any of the Indian victims were from the Kerala cell has not been determined. Families have hope - a voice message one son sent to his father this week said they had all survived.

Nevertheless, most have accepted they will never see their relatives again.



"Let them die in a bombing!" said Abdul Rahman Hamza, 66, the devastated father of a doctor and a school employee who took their pregnant wives and his 2-year-old grandson to the remote Afghan region. "What they are doing is not Islamic. The real Islam doesn't promote terrorism."
