Selection of a DG-ISI is a tedious process, it all depends on the recommendation. If it is someone from inside the organisation, He can be promoted on demand. Lately the agency is developing a trend of selecting the DG with solid background in Intelligence operations. There's also no guarantee that the new DG will be from these six Gentlemen. It could be a senior Lt. Gen too. It could be someone who has lead an important Directorate inside the agency then was promoted to three star and is currently commanding a Corps. That's how the outgoing DG was promoted. Fact is we can only guess and speculate.
