What's new

Is this Pakistani restaurant and Pakistani food in China authentic?

Well there was a big amount of Chinese students in my hostel. I've seen them eating rice with the main coarse. Or it's hard to believe how can someone eat tasteless plain white rice with nothing? 🤔🤔

But Chinese food usually has a lot of spices. If you eat it with fried rice with the same many spices, won't you feel very salty?

When we are served Chinese with fried rice in Pakistan, there are a few combinations:

1. Chicken manchurian: is slightly sweet and tangy, not saly
2. Chicken shashlik: emphasizes the umami flavor with oyster sauce and fish sauce
3. Dry Beef: emphasizes hot chilis

So they balance the saltiness of fried rice by changing the meat dish. It tastes very nice.

But if you match it like that, is it still Chinese food?

How could there be a chicken kebab? It's midnight snack.

I had this very similar breakfast in Hong Kong a few years ago. We were told to dip the steamed bun in soy milk which was very funny because I had never tried to eat a bun with chopsticks before lol. But somehow I managed. On the plate there was crunchy deep fried baby fish, quite hot but delicious. And the cake was the lightest fluffy thing I've ever tasted and not so sweet. This pic brings memories.

Sushi is Japanese. Doesn't look authentic. @MH.Yang

lol 😂 this are Chinese guys,I talked to them, it’s a bistro not a 5 Star restaurant, and secondly such bistros offer different cuisines, because it suits the business. So for me the guys and food were very authentic.

Chinese can sell japanese food. It doesn't make the food authentic Chinese.

@Inception-06 some more funny tidbits about Japan. So I was talking to a female Chinese acquaintance and the topic of Japan comes up. All of a sudden she got all conspiratorial and said 'You know, those Japanese geisha women you see, many of them are actually Chinese girls. They paint their faces and nobody can tell the difference. Most people have no idea what is going on'. Another time, talking with a South Korean acquaintance, topic of Japan comes up, and all of a sudden she gets all conspiratorial and says 'You know, many of these Sushi places are actually run by us Koreans. Most people don't know about this, but most of them are actually Koreans'. Still trying to figure out what Chinese and Korean ladies have against Japanese...
