I was more interested in his opinion before he went to claim Indian ethnicity's excellence by highlighting Indians being most wealthy in the US in his book.He clearly don't get the reason behind has nothing to do with indian excellence on a comparative scale.Singapore broke off from Malaysia as a Chinese majority enclave during Tunku Abdul Rahman's (?) time, who was Malaysia's founding father. He was the first Chief Minister of the Federation of Malaya from 1955 to 1957.
That said, Singapore (ruled by ethnic Chinese) is a one party state essentially and tries to legitimize that by fostering western style equal rights for all citizens, i.e. Malaysians and Indian Tamils. But few Malaysians or Indians are in prominent places in Singapore Govt. anyhow.
Which is fine because a few hundred miles up the coast, Chinese have no place in Malaysian Govt. either (because Chinese are not Malay or "Bumiputra"). Govt, jobs in Malaysia are all reserved for Malays. Chinese run the industry and economy in Malaysia and for their contribution, Malaysia is such an advanced nation today. I wish we had Chinese folks in Bangladesh so we could have our country develop too. Maybe someday.
I know of one Indian ancestry Singaporean though, who is brilliant and I am a fan. Kishore Mahbubani.
