(Talking to Mr. Mohiuddin)
Dude....you can NOT be serious.. -_-

IF that election really was rigged, I hope to hear something from the people. Thought I doubt it was rigged. The one who was worthy of becoming mayor did, the people elected who they wanted to be mayor. Simply put: the winner won.

'Ctg polls a turnaround'

Sat, Jun 19th, 2010 3:18 pm

Dhaka, June 19 (bdnews24.com) – The Chittagong city poll results indicate a turnaround among the people.

BNP's senior joint secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that the people have turned against the government.

He made the statement in a reaction to the polls that saw an impressive victory of the opposition BNP's mayoral candidate against the government backed three-time mayor Mohiuddin Chowdhury.

BNP-backed M Manzur Alam beat Mohiuddin by 95,528 votes in the June 17 polls.

Fakhrul said: "People have begun to turn around against a fascist government."

He said the verdict from Chittagong was a turning point.

"It is high-time to fight against the government."

The BNP leader lambasted what he referred to as the government's "policy of suppression".

"They want to silence dissent with torture. All of us should launch a movement against them."

He referred to the closure of Channel 1 and daily Amar Desh, both closely linked to the opposition BNP, and not allowing transmission of Jamuna TV.

"They do not believe in press freedom."

Fakhrul alleged that journalists across the country were being tortured.

"They want to stop the freedom of expression by suppression."

He condemned the government for alleged torture on Mahmudur Rahman acting Amar Desh editor during police remand.

But I was under the impression that your country had a minority of other communities too. So with the system you prescribe, don't you think they would be left isolated?

It's just a question out of curiosity,as I am not too familiar with your country.

Irony isn't it...especially when the original poster is sitting in a non-Muslim country which gives him all rights in every way...including the right to the President if he was born there.

You will not understand the concept of loyalty to country above religion and ethnicity...but of course you have no problem enjoying the freedoms granted here as a minority while trying to deny others the same freedoms elsewhere.... hypocrisy to the highest limits.

O really! How do you know and what is the parameter of being patriot?

Here is a fact for your ignorance about semi-Islamic Bangladesh.

We have holi days for small minority Hindus, almost negligible minorities like christain, buddist yet so called secular nations including USA provide no holidays to minorites like muslim. :undecided:

Why religion based holidays given to Christian and jews only in secular western nation? :coffee:

The only federal holiday which could be a religious holiday is Christmas on the 24th of Dec... and that is being debated right now whether that is a violation of separation of state versus church. There are no other holidays of any kind with any religious significance...there are no Jewish holidays.

Any American with birth right citizenship can become anything in America even the President. He can worship the unicorns if he wishes and that does not disqualify him from anything.

Ok I am wrong about jews hoiday.

However, what is good friday off about? I am sure it has some religious affiliation.

We will consider USA as full secular nation when it Abandon Christian holidays until then lets not brag about too much. :coffee:

Quite fair unbiased pov, eastwatch.

AL would have been more successful---in the backdrop of BNP-JI's immediate past mistakes---if they could do 3 things:

1. Not deteriorating Law & Order by fascist activities
2. Pursue a neutral 'Interest of Bangladesh foremost'-centric foreign policy
3. Pursue war-criminals while not harassing Islamic minded commoners

I accept all your points. But, there remans many ifs. About your point No. 1), it is not possible for any Party in BD to wipe out the goons. It is only because, these goons are needed in times of election. So, a political Party would not dare to touch them the way you or I may suggest.

Moreover, this time the old guards of AL, but without power and portfolio, are behind most of the fascist activities. These guys might have also masterminded the Pilkhana revolt with the support of a big neighbour.

About 2), I think AL is doing better this time. It has shifted its India-concentric position to a little eccentric. It is not that sweet for India. When the Cabinet was formed last year, India saw all of its AL proteges were out of power.

Could it be the main reason for a revolt in Pilkhana? With the senior AL goons in power, BD-China relationship would not have developed the way it has developed. Senior goons would have always used their veto power to derail the efforts. This is why India is nurturing them.

Do you remember during the CTG, Amir Hossain Amu hired a Singaporean helicopter ambulance to carry his sick wife to a Singapore hospital. I wonder, who financed her million dolar treratment.

About point No. 3), I hope this govt can fulfil your wish. But, the Mullahs are all in the same garland. Whatever may be their Party affiliation, they may come out not in favour of war-crime trials.
